about C. R. Yarn on Tue Nov 05 16:12:59 -0600 2013

I've shopped in C.R. Yarn about four or five times, mostly because I live too far away to shop more regularly. Some of the staff have been friendly while others not so much. The owner is very friendly, though, and I enjoyed visiting with her about spinning. I have joined the mailing list, but have yet to receive a mailing. The selection is okay, but I'd stock more sock yarns and more books. I shop here mainly for the locally-sourced yarns and fibers.

about Athena Fibers on Tue Nov 05 16:17:13 -0600 2013

I've only shopped at Athena Fibers twice because I live too far away to get there regularly, but I really loved both experiences. The staff were helpful, but not hovering. The selection of yarn is outstanding, and the environment is wonderful. There are tons of notions and needles to meet every need, and I could wander for hours in the store and not see everything. Both times I shopped here I was invited to Knit Night, but I couldn't return for it because I was leaving the same day. I hope to one day make it and meet other SD knitters. Wonderful shop!

about Dakota Treasures on Tue Nov 05 16:21:31 -0600 2013

It does have a small selection of yarn, but it's a selection of good yarn such as Blue Sky Alpacas, Berroco, and Brown Sheep Yarn Co. I was impressed that they had a better selection of good quality sock yarns, and that there were sweater quantities of worsted yarn (enough to knit a sweater), with a small quantity of knitting needles and notions. The focus does seem to be on the beads, though.
