About msnookchile

Knitting and travel are two of my passions, so I always check Knitmap for good yarn shops before a trip--and I have always been rewarded with such wonderful experiences (not to mention abundant stash enhancements) because of it!

about Cafilan on Wed Oct 26 08:02:34 -0500 2016

Just visited this week and it was a great experience! Others have commented elsewhere that they were put off by not being allowed to touch the yarn, so I debated whether to even go, but so glad I did! Don't expect one of those cozy modern places where you can hang out and fondle yarn or sit and knit, but rather an old-timey dark and crowded shop literally stacked floor to very high ceiling with enormous amounts of yarns from around the world.
I explained that when I travel I look for something I can't find elsewhere, and ended up buying 3 very special Italian wools, 2 of which were organic, and one of those was dyed with natural products.
Very much worth the visit!

What a great shop! Jam-packed with the most wonderfully vast and diverse selection of yarns from around the world. The owner was incredibly warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. Made me feel both welcome and inspired. A bright spot in the Syracuse area knitting world!

Sadly, Sheep Thrills closed in early 2016...

What a great shop! I was there in January 2015 and it remains a fond memory. Nice (although not huge) selection of yarns. The owner (and other staff) were very friendly and helpful and not only wound my yarn, but wrapped each up in pretty tissue paper and confetti! Made me feel very special!

about Stephen & Penelope on Thu Oct 27 15:27:33 -0500 2016

Love, love, love this shop! Highly recommended. Visited in June or July 2016, just before they moved to the new location. "Penelope" (Malia) was there and very helpful. She was also wearing a great Stephen West shawl (Welty) that I loved so much that I bought the yarn and pattern right then and there and spent the rest of my vacation working on it... now I have a lovely little shawl complete with wonderful built-in memories.

about Uldstedet on Tue Jul 04 12:57:37 -0500 2017

Loved this shop. Very friendly, knowledgeable service. Very inviting, comfortable atmosphere and very nice selection of yarns, including some of their own brand. I always look for yarns I won't find elsewhere, and this shop made it hard to choose!

about Sommerfuglen on Tue Jul 04 13:06:19 -0500 2017

Very nice shop with large selection of yarns. The space is fairly small and packed floor to ceiling with yarns, which makes it feel a bit cramped (although this might be seen as a yarn lover's paradise). It's also rather dark, so it was a little difficult to determine the true colors of some yarns. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and even gave me the special form to take to the airport for a return on the sales tax paid there.
Even given Denmark's reputation for being expensive and the very high rate of sales tax, I still found the prices to be quite reasonable.

about Yarn over Berlin on Sun May 20 15:20:17 -0500 2018

Great shop in Berlin. Loved the welcoming vibe. Great selection of well-known high-quality yarns (Madelintosh, Rowan, Brooklyn Tweed, Uncommon Thread, and more).
Part of a great trio of neighbors with Knit Knit Berlin and Herr U.

about Herr U in den Heckmann Höfen on Sun May 20 15:29:20 -0500 2018

This was a great find on a recent trip to Berlin, recommended by his neighbor Knit Knit Berlin (and part of a trio of neighbors with Yarn Over Berlin too)...
My friend and I loved this shop. Delightful, charming, welcoming owner, great selection of yarns, including Herr U's own yarns made with a Dutch dyer. Each is named after a little-known story by the Brothers Grimm, and he prints out the story (in German) with purchase of that yarn...
He's also the exclusive distributor of other gorgeous yarns. Highly recommended and worth tracking down this shop in the Heckman Höfen

about Knit Knit Berlin on Sun May 20 15:37:57 -0500 2018

Great find in the Mitte. Very warm and welcoming shop with nice selection of yarns, helpful staff, friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended. I also appreciated that they not only gave us directions to the close-by Yarn Over Berlin that we couldn't find, but also suggested the very charming Herr U shop in between... This is a dynamic trio, all within blocks of each other, that are equally warm and charming, although each with a unique personality and selection of yarns... All among the best in Berlin.

about Tolle Wolle on Sat Apr 27 00:06:51 -0500 2019
