I happened upon this shop by accident and I'm so happy I did. I've bought so many wonderful fibres from their friendly staff and I'm considering taking some knitting classes in their cozy classroom. Fibre Space is a must visit in Old Town.

I found this shop while my mom and I were visiting Lancaster for a mother-daughter vacation. I almost didn't drop in but I'm glad I did. I love their selection of fibres and the knowledgeable and helpful staff (Wendy is a gem).

I especially love their ty-dy sock yarn selection and their kettle dyed fibre from Uruguay.

Lancaster Yarn Shop will forever be on my must visit list when I travel through the area!

They still don't take credit cards so come prepared with cash or check. This is a funky shop with a friendly mother-daughter team running the show. They don't have a website (the daughter was surprised they had a listing on here) and they close when they're done for the day. But, they have a good selection of yarn, notions, and books. And hey, you can even get your hair trimmed if they're not busy:) They are also open on Sundays which is good to know since Lewisburg is, after all, a small town. I didn't see a ton of locally spun yarn as the listing mentions. But, I did see a lot of Cascade yarn which the daughter admitted was her favorite.

I love the selection in this shop! And the owner is so friendly and helpful. This is my go-to yarn store when I'm staying at the surrounding beaches which is often in the summer and occasional in the off-season. Like someone else said, this is my LYS while at the beach. Minus the crazy parking in the high season, this is an awesome shop to visit.

I loved this yarn shop before I even went inside. When I was there in late August they had flower pots overflowing outside. I also love their great big windows in the front. It is very welcoming both outside and in. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. They have a pretty good selection of local and non-local yarns. I was there when they were running low on Montana-made yarns. But, they had plenty of other made in Montana gifts I could pick-up for my friends back home including a coffee blended just for their shop. I also enjoyed their selection of vintage and handmade buttons in the back of the store. For those who do felting, there are buckets mounted on the wall in the front of the shop filled with all different colors of roving. My only wish is that this shop had some knitting space in the front of the shop under those big windows. I know in the winter it would be cold near the glass and the door. But, in the warmer months it would be nice to curl up in a comfy chair and knit in their beautiful shop.

This shop was a cool oasis at the end of June. The shop is not huge but it's organized well. They have a nice variety of yarn and a small section of sewing supplies. I appreciate that they have yarns for all price ranges and interests from expensive yak yarn to inexpensive acrylics.

The staff are friendly and helpful. And the ladies who were meeting there for a class were also welcoming. I know some shops are clique-ish, but not this one.

If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely drop by.

about Hunt Country Yarns on Wed Oct 09 16:50:15 -0500 2013

I went to this shop for my birthday in March and enjoyed it on the whole. The shop is welcoming with a big porch out front with rocking chairs. There is a classroom in the back that has some neat finished projects to look at.

They have a huge selection of yarn from novelty acrylics to expensive cashmere. The lady explained that their prices do not change once they have priced an item. I thought that was nice. The prices seemed pretty fair for most of their items. I know though that I can get the cashmere yarn online for much less. They also have a good selection of notions and project bags.

The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful for the most part. My only complaint is that she started talking politics and other gloomy subjects with a man that came in and pretty much ignored us until we were ready to check out. I didn't want her to hover but I also didn't want her to be inaccessible either. Plus, listening to a shopkeeper complain about the woes of the world while I'm trying to relax on my birthday (which to my embarrassment my mom announced as soon as we came in) is not my idea of fun.

Otherwise, I enjoyed this shop and their selection. I'm sure I am being too sensitive and that this place is usually relaxed and upbeat. If I am ever in the area, I will try Hunt Country Yarn again, at least to give it a fair assessment.
