about We'll Keep You in Stitches on Tue Aug 10 04:16:53 -0500 2010

Overall the owner was very pleasant and she has a wonderful Russian woman working there who is very welcoming and friendly. If my husband hadn't asked, I would have thought she was the owner.

As others have said, they carry quite a lot of novelty yarn which doesn't suit my tastes. Most of the yarn is in bags, but it was clear that I was free to open bags and smoosh the yarn. Being in Chicago where spaces are small and expensive, I wasn't surprised at the tinyness of the store. However, I wish it had been better organized....it was a bit to messy with bins of yarn blocking shelves of other yarn.

My husband wasn't sure of what to make of some of the owner's comments about me being a "real knitter". I didn't think much of it until later, but I did notice that the ladies who were knitting were much friendlier when they found out I am an experienced knitter. Not that they were unfriendly at all....I just think they were more comfortable letting me look and didn't feel the need to explain/describe every yarn I touched.

All in all this was a nice little store that has the basics and also knowledgeable staff. I probably wouldn't go way out of my way to shop there, but would for sure stop in if I was close by again.

about Loops, A Yarn Store on Tue Aug 10 04:24:06 -0500 2010

Super friendly ad knowledgeable staff and a fabulous selection of yarn. Loops is one of those places that you just feel comfortable spending time in. I've spent hours just looking around and have never been made to feel uncomfortable or pressured to purchase (but who could resist!?). This is definitely a first class and well run business!

Just to add, the new south Tulsa location is every bit as awesome! It's feel is a bit different...open, airy, clean lines, etc., but it is also welcoming and has a great (and slightly different) selection of yarn. The only downside is that it's so close to home that I might have to shop there every day!

Revising my revised opinion. I must have had a one time fluke experience. Have since been in this store and my exasperation grows. The staff seems to know nothing about what they are selling. They can't make proper yarn recommendations, none of them seem to knit or crochet, and they basically refuse to wind yarn. I recently was informed that the owner does not knit or crochet. I have stopped sending my students to this store (I give them a list of LYS in the area) for fear they will walk away with expensive wool for washcloths as one newbie knitter almost did the day I was last in the store....before I jumped in to show her the cotton yarn.

One positive is that they have seriously improved their yarn selection. The needle selection is just poor at best. If you know what you want and are familiar with fibers, then you might find something you like...just don't count on getting any customer service.
