about Windsor Button Shop on Sat Feb 13 13:36:29 -0600 2010

I visited this store on a recent trip to Boston and I was so impressed with their selection of yarn. They have a wide assortment of brands, weights and colors. The staff was very attentive, friendly and happy to answer my questions. Plus their assortment of buttons is outstanding. Very pleased with this store!

about Newbury Yarns on Thu Jan 13 05:59:24 -0600 2011

I was visiting from Chicago and made a point to stop at this shop before I went back home. The woman working at the shop didn't acknowledge me when I walked in. She was busy consulting another customer at the time, so I let it go. But after that customer left and I was the only one left in the store, she still didn't acknowledge my presence. Not a "hello" not a "can I help you?" The shop is very small and the selection of yarn was disappointing. I would neither go back to this store nor recommend it to a fellow knitter.

I always make it a point to visit an LYS when I'm on vacation and I'm glad that I stopped in this shop. They have a nice selection and the young woman working the register couldn't have been friendlier. I will definitely make a stop in this shop next time I'm visiting.

A good place to stop if you're looking for luxury fibers. I've seen brands in here that I'd only seen in magazines. Great customer service. The woman working there the day I went was very friendly and helped me find some great patterns to go with my beautiful Twinkle yarn.

I recently stopped in the shop during a visit to the Denver area. I'm surprised to read the negative reviews by some people on this post. My experience was really good. The owner could not have been nicer to me and was helpful but not hovering. The selection of yarn is nice with mostly lower to moderately priced yarns and a few luxury lines mixed in. Contrary to the last post by "Wendy" the store is NOT Wal-Mart like ... not unless your Wal-Mart carries Cascade, Classic Elite, Louet and some slightly higher-end cashmere blends. The atmosphere is that of an older store. You won't find an espresso bar and trendy furniture in here like you might in some newer more urban shops.

They also have a nice selection of buttons and a room off to the side full of sale yarns. The only minor nit I have about the store is that they have a lot of older patterns in stock, not as many newer patterns available (unless I just didn't see them).

As for children ... I can understand why the owner or employees would feel some anxiety about having kids running around in the store. I've seen plenty of children gone wild in stores grabbing and rearranging things, while their parents look the other way.

Long story short ... everyone experiences things differently. I personally liked this shop, but others may not. I've also heard a story from a local friend about some "mommy mafia" group of women who have made it their mission to trash the reputation of this store. If that's true, then I'm guessing some of these reviews are from some of those women. So, read those negative reviews with a grain of salt and visit the place yourself to make your own determination.

I visited this store during the August 2011 Chicago Yarn Crawl and was so impressed with the amazing selection of yarn they have to offer, from well-known high to medium-end brands and locally dyed yarns. The staff was very friendly and helpful when I had a question about the different brands of circular needles. I will absolutely go back again and will recommend it to fellow knitting friends.

about Stitch'n Hook on Mon Sep 12 16:03:24 -0500 2011

Not impressed with their yarn selection or the store layout. The staff is friendly though and willing to help answer questions. One plus is that they carry Addi Turbo circulars and will order whatever you need if they don't have a particular size in the store.
