about Rosehaven Yarn Shop on Sat May 22 01:50:53 -0500 2010

I stopped into the store while on a photo trip in the hope of finding some local yarn. Not only was I surprised to find that they had yarns I haven't seen in bigger cities, I was thrilled at the variety of materials they had. Qiviut, beaver, more angora than you can shake a bunny at, and even a yarn that was a blend of a certain breed of dog. In the end, I bought 3 skeins of yarn spun from a sheep that used to belong to the owner. Even got to see a picture of the sheep. You can't get much more local than that, unless you go out to the farm and pet the sheep yourself!

Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. I'm only sorry I live 4 hours away!

When I go to new cities, I always make a point of finding a LYS and seeing if I can get my hands on some local yarns. While I did enjoy the atmosphere of the shop, I was disappointed that there was really only one local yarn available when I stopped in. They did have some very nice yarns, good quality, but not that much I couldn't find back home.

I stopped in while in town in the fall of 2009, hoping to get some yarn that I couldn't get back home, and came away with a few sampler skeins of handpainted merino done by a local woman. They had so many beautiful yarns, I felt like a kid in a candy store. A bit more pricey than I'm used to, but I haven't been a high-end yarn consumer in the past. I had a great time talking with staff. They were very friendly. I wish I'd been able to drop by for their stitch n' bitch while I was in town.
