about Purl Soho on Sun Apr 27 07:04:32 -0500 2008

I'd read about Purl online before I visited NY and knew, just *knew* that I'd have to stop in. I'm glad I did. The other reviewers are right, this place is *small*, but it packs a lot of atmosphere in there and the selection is great. And, a wall of Koigu? Are you kidding me? Love!

about The Knit Cafe on Sun Apr 27 06:52:31 -0500 2008

Love this place, more for the staff & atmosphere than the selection (it's on the small side). Great place to knit, nibble, and pick up a skein or two of something luscious.

about Romni Wools on Sun Apr 27 06:55:30 -0500 2008

Romni is like the wal-mart of yarn stores, but in a good way. The selection is enormous, you can get pretty much anything you need here. It's daunting at first but once you get to know it, you'll love it. Nowadays, I tend to take the "surgical strike" approach to Romni: know what I want, go in, grab it, pay, leave. If you go to browse, make sure you have *lots* of time to spend because the place is a time hole. But, again, in a good way ;)

about The Needle Emporium on Sun Apr 27 06:50:42 -0500 2008

This place is fantastic. Julie, the owner, is knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help (plus she writes an awesome blog!). The selection is *large* -- great selection of the majors (rowan, debbie bliss, noro, fleece artist), staples (brown sheep, etc.) and some brilliant lace & sock yarns (lorna's laces, noro, mountain colours). This store is a trek from Toronto (about 45 mins-1 hour) but definitely worth the trip.

about The Wool Bin on Sun Apr 27 06:44:58 -0500 2008

This is a fairly decent store with some nice selection. Good selection of Fleece Artist, from what I can remember (it's been a few months). The staff are sort of friendly -- I got the sense that they are more used to catering to, ahem, *older* knitters. Not my favourite yarn store, but not bad either.
