about Little Barn, Inc. on Mon Jul 28 11:09:07 -0500 2014

They appear to have closed. I drove out to the location where the store was, and when I walked up to the front door, I could see through the door glass that everything inside was in disarray. No yarn, no spinning supplies, just random furniture. When asking about it at other LYSs, they claim that the owner now only sells knitting needles.

about Yarn Expressions on Mon Jul 28 11:33:38 -0500 2014

This yarn store has by far the best selection of yarns in Huntsville. They have quality yarns for every price range. For the midrange yarns, they have a variety of Cascade, Plymouth, Berroco, Hikoo, and Classic Elite. For higher end, they have Blue Heron, Great Adirondack, Artyarns, Madelinetosh, the Fibre Company, and many more. No matter what your price range, they have something for you.

They have a wide variety of spinning fibers. They have dyes, drop spindles, and other related accessories. They have a huge selection of books. They carry Hiya Hiya needles, and well as a few other brands. They have many knitting notions.

My main issue with the store has to do with the owner. Although many of the staff are pleasant and friendly, the owner can be a bit rude.

Also, animal alert!!! Sometimes near the end of the workday, one of the employees brings in a huge dog. For those with allergy concerns or cleanliness concerns (like myself) this can be a problem. However, the store is otherwise very clean.

This small store has a relatively small variety of yarns, although some of the ones that they carry are nice. They have Blue Heron, The Fibre Company, Hikoo, Schoppel Wolle, Blue Ridge, Three Irish Girls, Malabrigo, and the absolutely lovely yarns of Rhichard Devrieze.

Their mid-range priced yarn consists mainly of Brown Sheep, which is unfortunately not a very good yarn.

They have some nice spinning fibers. They carry the full line of ChiaoGoo needles, and other useful notions. They carry Slipped Stitch Studio bags as well as other nice organizers and bags.

My main concern with the store is the cleanliness. The store is dirty, and it smells funny. However nice the yarns may be, this is tainted by a cat that lives in the store and a dog that is there very often and uses the bathroom in the store. The occasional pet visit would not be so bad, but the extent to which they are there is simply bad business.

This store has closed. The owner passed away.

The yarn section is part of a much larger general/junk store. She carries some Plymouth yarns, but I wouldn't say that she has a very good overall selection.

She carries some notions and other yarn accessories.

The owner's wife likes sock knitting, and will give lessons.
