about Yarn Connection on Sat Nov 13 04:48:05 -0600 2010

Have stopped in here a couple times over the past few years. It gets better each time. Really impressed with the selection of more Scandinavian patterns, yarns and buttons. As others have said, Tish is a great owner and does a good job. Sad they don't have a website or more of presence on Ravelry.

about Mustard Seed Dreams on Sat Nov 13 04:51:13 -0600 2010

Great local yarn shop! I really didn't expect to find something of this caliber in Pocatello! Higher end yarns mixed with classic midrange favorites. Great atmosphere and wonderful help... they played with my 2.5 year old son while I shopped! Will make it a mission to stop here each time I travel through this area!

about Florence's Attic on Sat Nov 13 04:54:06 -0600 2010

Ok store... nothing fancy and limited on selection. Women there were friendly. Doubt I will return... brands available were very mid to low range.

about Knit-Wits, Inc. on Sun Nov 14 01:25:09 -0600 2010

Knit Wits has been around for decades in west Boise. Always the mainstay of needleworkers it has recently gone through some major changes in ownership and over the past years shed it's old atmosphere of 'old lady' crafting. It's now a great mid-range store with some great accessories by local artists. Every year I revisit this site I am impressed with the changes being made. There is still a small cross-stitch section but the most of the store is dedicated to all that is yarn. There are even some nice luxury yarns being offered like Be Sweet. Go ahead and give this store a second look.

about Fuzz on Sun Nov 14 01:33:35 -0600 2010

Probably one of the best local resources for spinning! Fuzz is run by a pair lovely ladies who are oh so welcoming. Yarn selection at Fuzz is very wide and interesting. You can always stop by and sit and knit anytime.

about The Yarn Shoppe on Sun Nov 14 01:36:07 -0600 2010

Great little shop in the heart of historic Meridian. Originally Lisa's Yarn Shoppe, this store has been around for many years. Great classes are offered here as well as a healthy selection of popular mid-range yarns. This is the source for Brown Sheep in the Treasure Valley. Big Noro selection, Mountain Colors, Cascade and much more!

about Puffy Mondaes on Sun Nov 14 01:40:58 -0600 2010

As stated above if local is what you want you will find it here at Puffy. This is a very eclectic store in historical downtown Nampa. Various crafts are represented in the store and the staff is energetic and warm. Fuzz!! is the spinning store in Boise but Puffy is THE spinning store of the Treasure Valley! If you spin, you must get to Puffy... this is also the only place currently carrying felting supplies. Sign up for the newsletter and join Puffy's group on Ravelry... great coupons!

about Orchardside Yarn Shop on Sun Nov 14 12:38:17 -0600 2010

Drove quite a distance to this shop. The property it's on is beautiful and the shop is full of interesting and nice yarns. Unfortunately the lady on staff the day I arrived was rude and unwelcoming to me and my toddler son. I was trying to look at the yarns while keeping my son from turning the store upside down and the lady did nothing to help. She only scolded my son and gave me nasty looks. It was really disappointing and a low point for a me while my husband was deployed. I've never encountered such an unhelpful and mean spirited store in all my travels. Don't bother if you have kids.

about Cestari Sheep & Wool Company on Sun Nov 14 12:41:29 -0600 2010

This is the home of Cestari Yarns. Wide selection of this yarn and seconds. Very primitive store. Not my favorite yarn but it was nice to find something local. They have a festival once a year with booths on the farm and animals for kids... we enjoyed this.

about Knit and Stitch = Bliss on Sun Nov 14 12:46:20 -0600 2010

Cute, small and a pain in the booty to get to. Selection is nice but nothing you can't get elsewhere. Disappointed after braving the traffic and parking. If you live or work in the area then check it out but if you're from out of town or on a crawl you can find easier and nicer shops nearby.

about Stitch DC - Capitol Hill on Sun Nov 14 12:48:57 -0600 2010

The front of the store looks small but there's more in the back. Sure, it's not HUGE but it's easier to park and get to this store than some in the area. The service was great when I was there in the summer of 2009. Prices are high but welcome to DC. Would visit again if I was in the area.

about A Tangled Skein on Sun Nov 14 12:51:55 -0600 2010

Agree with most comments above. Great selection, service is hit or miss, dark atmosphere, and parking not too shabby. It was the best store I found within 30 miles and would make trip back there if I find myself in Baltimore or DC.

about Cloverhill Yarns on Sun Nov 14 12:53:16 -0600 2010

Good shop... decent selection... ok service.

about Aylins Woolgatherer on Sun Nov 14 12:58:20 -0600 2010

Yeah... this is real hit or miss place. I too found it itty bitty and over flowing with stock. The location is very challenging to find. When I was there it was hard to find anything to buy. Nothing really stood out. It's a good knitting basics shop but the experience of going there and shopping left something to be desired.

about The Knitting Nest on Sun Nov 14 13:10:15 -0600 2010

I don't get why Ravelry has such a hankering for this shop. Like the others mentioned the selection is a real let down, the shop look is trendy and fun but the service and people are anything but. I was so disappointed. I visited the old shop location and haven't been back since. I might give it another try...

about Hill Country Weavers on Sun Nov 14 13:14:49 -0600 2010

Ok, it's a great yarn shop for central Texas. The yarns stocked are fairly typical and common in more high end yarn stores. Prices are good. Service is ok... but it's just soo darn cramped! After all the talking up I got about the store I was disappointed. I expected more space and more yarn than what I saw. The house is stocked from floor to ceiling with yarn but it's hard to really SEE what they have... sort of a sensory overload and I couldn't really feel a clear organization to it all. Because the shop is so small it's hard to move around and if there are several shoppers at once forget any sort of service.

about Gauge Knits on Sun Nov 14 13:17:21 -0600 2010

Nice shop, great sitting area in the back, decent selection. The day I showed up the owner stepped out and put someone in charge who didn't know how to run the register or check out the customers... annoying as hell. He was nice but it took 20 minutes to pay for my stuff and I only bought two things and was the ONLY PERSON THERE!

about Stitch Lab on Sun Nov 14 13:19:53 -0600 2010

Yeah, not a yarn store. This is the place, though for classes on all types of crafts including crochet and knitting. Amazing sewing, felt and stitching supplies! The shop is a feast for the eyes and I never pass it up while I am in town!

about Fuzz on Thu Jan 19 20:09:38 -0600 2012

New location a little hidden but once found the parking is great and it's on a little courtyard which should be nice in the summer.
The store itself seems very sterile and flat. Really sad. Still has a nice selection of yarns and so on but the lighting and decorating needs help... I could barely take two trips through the store before I had to leave. Bummer.

about Knit-Wits, Inc. on Thu Jan 19 20:14:18 -0600 2012

Well, I have not idea what's up with Knit Wits but over Christmas 2011 it looked like it had been ransacked and stripped. Really really dirty and limited stock on hand. Everything looked it's age... 1970s meets 20 years of toddlers... just ick. The horribleness of the shop's look didn't encourage me to stay and look much. My mother asked for help finding a certain weight of yarn but the guy helping her didn't really find her much of anything nor did his offer up any alternatives. So upsetting! This shop was really turning around a few years ago. Rumor is that the new traffic set up infront of the store is just going to kill it's customer base so they might just be cutting their losses for now and will close doors soon... I have no firm confirmation on this, though.

about Twisted Ewe on Thu Jan 19 20:16:48 -0600 2012

Yeah, update from Christmas 2012. These guys are still going strong. Strong staff, strong yarn selection, great classes and accessories that will have your mouth watering. GREAT JOB! This is how a yarn shop should be run! They even have a kid's corner for your ankle biters to play in while you shop and knit. I HEART you all!

about Coordinated Colors Yarn Shoppe on Tue Apr 08 19:14:48 -0500 2014

PROS: The location is great, there are not any yarn stores within 10 miles, you have to cross the water to find a LYS! Selection on needles and notions is the best around. They have multiple brands. Yarn selection is fair to good depending on your tastes.

CONS: Staff and owner. I rarely meet a person who lives here locally who has had a positive experience in this store. Owners fight in the presence of customers, are rude to customers (I can cite several witnessed interactions) and don't seem to have a go handle on how to market to their customer base.

Was present when a customer asked for a refund and was denied due to a long standing policy. The customer hemmed and hawed about it and the owner decided to 'bend' her policy and process the refund anyhow. Only, she didn't know how to do it and while trying to figure it out the owner lectured the customer about how complicated the refund was... why in the world would you break your own rules only to lecture your customer out in the open in front of other customers?! Most bizarre interaction, I have no idea what she think she was accomplishing by doing this.
Owner also asked to see a project I was working on and asked about the yarn I used and called it 'crap'. Interesting. Never had that one happen before.

Maybe I hit this place on a bad day... maybe not. All I can say is that I've never been back and never had an experience like that one before or since.

about The Yarn Club, Inc. on Tue Apr 08 19:20:31 -0500 2014

Great selection of hot yarns and fiber. This is a fast paced store for people who like the latest trends and yarns.
Overall space is good, there are two tables to sit and knit at as well as many areas stuffed with yarn of all weights and contents. This is the place to get Anzula, Dragonfly, Neighborhood Fiber Company, Madelinetosh, and many others. They carry Knit Picks, Chiaogoo and Kollage needles. The store now also carries raw fiber and offers classes in spinning.
Really, this is the best store in the area. Well rounded and good selection. Only cons I hear about this store is that they are hard sellers. So, go in expecting to buy or at least expecting a hard sales pitch. The good news, though, is that the pitch is backed up by great customer service and help!

about Baa Baa Sheep LLC on Tue Apr 08 19:28:04 -0500 2014

Great little yarn shop! Located in hidden part of Norfolk.
Selection of yarn is good for the small space. Don't expect to get sweater quantities of yarn but do plan on picking up several skeins of new up and coming yarns! The best asset this store has is it's owner who is always gracious and kind. Definitely worth a peek!

about Knitting Sisters on Tue Apr 08 19:31:44 -0500 2014

Must admit that my visit to Knitting Sisters was disappointing. While I like the space and feel of the shop I found the selection lacking. Lots of Mountain Colors and Manos yarn. Very little of the newer yarns. They did have Habu and some Berroco that are currently popular. Maybe they were between shipments.
Otherwise I liked the shop and saw great potential.
