About Lisa Tankersley

A bit of an over-achiever when it comes to fiber. Why do simple knits and purls when there are so many lace patterns to explore? Why make a scarf when one can knit an entire decorative shower curtain?

I just completed five stops on the 1-75 Yarn Crawl, which led me to this lovely little shop in the historic main section of North College Hill. The ladies were knowledgeable and friendly. I purchased some gorgeous kettle died merino wool yarn at a very reasonable price. Though my mission was yarn, I was also drawn into the fabric selection- beautiful prints calling to be quilted.

They have a weekly Stitch - n- bitch on Thursdays, and a special monthly Thursday. Next door is a premier beer and wine shop, adding to a your day of fiber fun. Buy the yarn, take it next door, knit away and console yourself for spending the rent check.

Added note: I just did a quick check on the web relating to one of the yarns I bought here. I had also seen it at another shop I went to this weekend on a yarn crawl. It seems that Silk Road charges significantly less than the other store- and 50 cents less than the cheapest price I saw on the web. Good prices and I get to touch the yarn? Yippee!!!!!

about Hank, A Yarn Boutique on Tue Jun 10 07:08:05 -0500 2014

This Lisa is with Lisa Tuttle on her assessment. The selection in amazing- but the warmth comes from the yarn, not the staff. I have been in there twice now, and the feel of the place remains the same. In addition, suggestions are not so much given as told. All of the sales associates were there on one day as it was an advertised yarn crawl. They were having too much fun with each other to worry about the clientele.

What bothered me the most was when I was checking out I felt like I was being coerced into having them wind the yarn into cakes for me. Frankly, I make my own ball winders and swifts- and enjoy the winding process- so I ended up having to tell the woman "No thanks, I'll do it myself," three times before she stopped pestering me- and then she gave me an air as if I'm stupid for not letting her do it for me.

Let's face it; if they wind it, we can't return it. Plus I really do find winding cathartic.

I won't say I won't go back as it is the closest store to my home, but it's definitely no my first, second, or third choice.
