about The Sheep Shoppe on Fri Jul 03 15:20:28 -0500 2015

I spotted this place when it was newly opened and went in to check it out. It's pretty high priced which isn't surprising given the Newtown location. I got the impression they are more about spinning and felting than regular knitting. They definitely don't have the variety of yarns I've seen at Nancy O or A Stitch in Time. Usually when I go into a yarn shop I see so many things that inspire me and make me want to max out my credit card, but at this place I couldn't find anything I wanted to buy to knit with, so I rather think our tastes don't mesh. The biggest turn-off was the really negative stuff Nancy (I think she's the owner) had to say about the owner of A Stitch in Time. I don't know if they have history together, but trashing your competition is really in poor taste. I felt so uncomfortable I haven't been back.

Love, Love, LOVE this store! The staff is so nice and welcoming. The selection is wonderful and I'm able to find exactly the right yarn for my projects. They have a comfy sofa area, which is nice, and I love that they have a computer available to browse Ravelry in case you've forgotten any pattern details or need to decide what yarn substitutions to make. I won a small project during the yarn crawl and when I went in to pick it up they made a huge fuss over me, which was a little embarrassing, but I kinda liked it. I left smiling and feeling great! Lots of good energy in this place. They really get it!

Really nice yarn selection, including a discount table. Nice selection of patterns and buttons too, though sometimes the needle pickings are slim. Eva's helpers are wonderful. I've gone in for help several times and always gotten great assistance. Once I ran short of yarn when I was making several hats. With help I was able to find the right color yarn, though a lighter weight. It was suggested that I hold the yarn doubled to get the correct weight, and it worked beautifully. I would miss this shop if it weren't there!

I think this place went to internet sales only and is closed at this location.

This store is amazing!! Clean, well-organized and HUGE! I could spend all day in here. I love that the yarn is organized by weight so it's really easy to find what you're looking for. They have lots of hard to find notions and accessories. The staff is really friendly and helpful, and lets you browse if that's what you want to do. I'm from out of town, so I only get to visit about once a year, but it's a must see if you've never been before.

Good for needles & notions, Peaches 'n Cream and other big box yarns. Often their prices are better than Joann's up the street, and they will price match so if there's a sale elsewhere bring the flyer or coupon in.
