I went recently while we were visiting Ottawa. The selection was okay, well organized but not exciting. The owner was helpful when I approached her for help but the women sitting at the back knitting together made me feel completely unwelcome! Each of the 10 or so women looked up at me at some point while I was looking at the yarn and because I had planned to crochet there for awhile I made sure to smile and say hello each time. Not one women either smiled back or responded to my hellos. NOT ONE. It felt like being back home (a very small town) where outsiders are given the cold shoulder. Needles to say I did not stay. I found myself a lovely cafe down the street and happily crocheted away the afternoon while waiting for my family to finish a tour of the parliament. If I were to go back to Ottawa I would not go back to this store.

Not bad, but not great.

OttawaDar, thanks for your review. Is there a reason why you didn't go up to staff and ask for assistance?

I hate being "pounced upon" in small shops, so I might give this place a try.

I don't get an overly friendly feel here. I've only been in once in order to find something specific and not one person came up to me to ask if they could be of help. I didn't find what I was looking for and just left. Not sure if I would go back or not.

Despite there being a lot of yarn at this store, I somehow didn't find anything I wanted to buy (and I want to buy ALL THE YARN). Well organized, with lots of space, and a lot of yarn, but I think a lot of the yarn is very similar, there is not a great deal of variety? They had a little bit of top, which was nice. The staff were not unfriendly, but I did feel a little awkward shopping, almost like I was intruding.

A nice variety of yarn, but I don't think this will be somewhere I'll regularly visit.

I like this store, mainly because it is a browser's store. By that, I mean that I don't feel jumped on when I enter, but I know by a nod or smile that my presence is known. More often than not, someone will let me know that I can ask questions if need be, but not until I have browsed a little. Sometimes I know exactly what I want and the clerk at the cash provides good service. It is unfortunate that the two customers who have written about bad experiences have had them. That said, I have learned to surmise who is an expert on what: yarns, patterns, machines etc. I will ask pertinent q's to those members and always receive useful, friendly help and advice. I do wish that in addition to the lovely, higher end yarns, that they would offer a few mid-range ones, for more utilitarian items such as dishcloths and pram blankets (which I like to make out of nice yarn, but not super expensive higher end yarns that don't wear well in certain weather or are not as easy to care for etc. ) Canadiana is nice, but not always suitable, and there are some less costly bamboo yarns out there that offer great colours.

Good selection of yarns, but not the friendliest service. They seem to be way better with their sewing machine customers.

I always visit this store when I am in Ottawa. It is well arranged, lots of selection and a very good collection of books and patterns. Generally the service is knowledgeable and helpful.

I have visited this neighbourhood shop many times and have usually received a cool and unfriendly welcome from a variety of staff members (including a woman who seemed to be in a management position). On my last visit I was mortified when the manager and an employee argued in front of me when they could have easily taken it to the back office.
