Fabulous yarn shop! Beautiful and unique yarns from small companies and local spinners and dyers (go to the Ben Franklin in Traverse City for commercial yarns). Super friendly shop owner, awesome Saturday morning open knitting group, lots of indie patterns, interesting classes (spinning, plying, finishing techniques) ... well worth the drive. Bonus: old family Polish/Bohemian butcher shop kiddy corner in the village.

I used to love this store. I have always recommended it to my friends, but I don't now. I emailed and called several times to order some leather soles for the slippers I knit. She lied and said that she was going to order them "next week", however that was a month since I had ordered it. Several months later...no leather soles. I emailed again and got no response...she totally blew me off. To this day I still have no idea why she did that. I won't go back again or recommend her to anyone anymore. That's not a way to conduct a business. She drove other customers away when i first started going there. Apparently she holds grudges.

Inish Knits: the shop itself is small, cozy with a wonderful atmosphere - warm, charming, inviting. The shop speaks oodles about its owner, Melissa who is just as warm, friendly, charming, and delightful as her shop. Melissa has a very nice selection of beautiful yarns, a good selection of classes from which to choose and is always ready and willing to help you with any problem and/or any project.
Cedar, MI is a small rural northern MI (lower peninsula) town in Leelanau County - the mitten's little finger. Along with Inish Knits there is a quilt shop next door, a jewelry artist across the street, and at the north end of town, a great restaurant located next door to an equally great wine tasting room. A trip over to Cedar is a lovely drive - 15 or 20 minutes at most from downtown Traverse City. Enjoy! :-D
Lindy - a happy customer who happens to love Cedar, Inish Knits and Michigan's little finger :)

I was recently staying near Lake Ann and drove to Cedar specifically to go to Inish Knits. What a pleasant surprise! I am surprised that such a small town can support this type of yarn shop. The selection was not large, but what was stocked was very nice quality. Also carries Elizabeth's Designs yarns from a local indie dyer who is a friend. Perhaps the best part... the owner's husband grows sweet corn, which is sold by the shop during the summer. What a treat! I love small town shops for just this kind of thing.

Cute little shop, owner very friendly. Disappointed in yarn selection, not much to choose from at this time.

I've traveled alot and explored many, many knit shops along the way. Inish Knits is, by far, my favorite. Melissa's selection of fibers and patterns is exquisite. Cedar, Michigan, is a bit out of the way but well worth the drive.
