Yarn Lady:
I think they're closed on Saturdays for religious reasons (note the mezuzah in the doorway). Not everybody's holy day is Sunday! The arrangement is by weight, or at least it is now, I don't know if it was when you visited. Sock and lace yarns behind the couches, worsted is in the corner if you turn left at the door and just keep walking to the end of the room, bulky's right before that. Luxury yarns, like cashmere, are in the center.

I just bought my first spinning wheel at the Yarn Spot. Victoria was very helpful with explaining how the wheels work, the difference between single drive & double drive, ratios, etc. and letting me treadle each one and spin a little wool to decide which to get. I got a Kromski Sonata, and it's great!

I love this store and the owner, Victoria and her entire staff. They are all so helpful. The first time I visited the store I asked Victoria if she had knitting classes. I was her first student. I took four lessons and now I have knitted two scarfs and a baby blanket with much help along the way.

The atmosphere of the store is so pleasant and you meet plenty of interesting people especially if you go to their Wednesday and Thursday evening knitting circle.

The Yarn Spot is definitely a tremendous asset to this community.

I hope this store will be here for a very long time.

The best of luck to all your endeavors, Victoria and staff.

I stopped in the shop and found it friendly willing to take a moment to talk. I am from Oregon and visiting family in the area. East Coast, West Coast....yarn people love yarn.

I love the Yarn Spot! They carry such a great variety of yarns, and the staff is fantastic, and so helpful in finding the perfect yarn or pattern. Not to disagree with Yarn Lady, but I found the stock well organized by weight, with clear sections, and some "specials" -- like hand-dyed or Alchemy yarns -- pulled out.

The knit groups are very welcoming, and have lots of experienced knitters who are willing to help if something isn't working quite right. It is a bright, sunny space with lots of comfortable seating. While of course it would be great if they were open 24 hours a day for all those knitting emergencies, the hours are convenient, with early Friday hours that are unique to area shops.

Do yourself a favor and stop by - odds are you'll soon join the family of happy regulars!

This is a great little shop. It has a nice variety, it's spacious, everything has a price tag so you won't be surprised at the cash register, staff is helpful and nice, and there are multiple places in the store to sit and knit. They have a lot of Classic Elite, Tahki Stacy Charles, JoJoland, Cascade, and many others, I just can't remember right now. Also, this is one of the only shops in the Wheaton/Silver Spring area which is nice; the next closest one I think is in Kensington, but that one isn't as nice, as far as variety anyway.

I do have some complaints though. I find it a bit odd that they're not open on Saturdays since I'm sure many customers work full-time and weekends are the only time they have to shop, but then again the shop is open on Sundays...but still. Also, I don't understand the way they organize the yarn. For example, some places organize the yarn by weight, or color, or brand, or fibre content, etc. but The Yarn Spot doesn't seem to quite do that. It seems like they may have done it by weight, but not really.

Overall a great shop and I'm glad it's here!!

Still a new store, the Yarn Spot is adding new stock all the time. It's a pleasant, airy space with a very friendly staff who foster a friendly atmosphere. There's a broad range of yarns at all price points. Light pours in through the large, south-facing windows. It's a comfortable place to settle in, look around, knit, and make friends.

I stopped in at this new yarn store yesterday. I found a wide variety of yarn including my favorite, sock yarn. I will go back again.
