Walked in the store for the Yarn Crawl knowing there was a dog. The dog was on a seat staring at me with a cute face and was so quiet. I was later browsing and almost stepped on the dog that was now on the floor laying down.

This store is okay, I did feel that the owner was unfriendly but yet she did not ignore me if I asked her for something. I would have to walk over to her to ask something instead of her asking me if I needed anything, but I was still helped. I felt like they didn't need my money, so I only bought enough for the yarn crawl.

The store has a good selection of yarn, but I'd rather go to the other stores that have a good selection, decent lighting and better service.

Been looking forward to going to their knit night and doing some stash building. Opened the front door and was cornered by a small dog. I was backed up into a corner as far as possible because the dog wouldn't let me pass. It growled and barked at me. That is when someone came and scooped up the dog. I don't need to bring yarn into my home that has dog hair on it because my children are allergic to dogs. But this is not my shop, the owner sets the rules they want for their shop.

What I saw from the front door looked intereesting.

This is my LYS, and I love it! Doni, the owner, has done way more than just amass a selection of amazing yarns and inspiring projects -- she has created a space where knitters and crocheters are equally welcome to sit, learn, and share the joys and sorrows of life together. Whether you are a learn-to-knitter or an experienced fiber artist, the back room table is a place to congregate and find creativity and fun! Barbara, the instructor and finishing expert, is an amazing teacher. She knows how to make those students who feel like they have all left thumbs feel as good about themselves as the super-speedy long-time knitters. And the experience is enhanced by Tucker, the adorable shop dog, who wags his way into your heart! If you want expertise and a great selection, don't miss Sip & Knit!

Better selection than other stores in the area, but no atmosphere. A little music would help.
The prices are high, too. I don't know if I'll go back.

Unfortunately, this is the best stocked yarn store in Orlando. I agree with the others who have said that the shop owner, Donnie, is unfriendly. The shop and owner are extremely un-child-friendly. She refuses to stock Cascade 220 in more than one skein per color because "it's only good for felting." So, yes. Very snobby yarns. Very snobby owner. Her dog is allowed to roam free through the shop, going through your bags, jumping up on your lap, etc, but children better not make a peep, or Donnie doesn't hesitate to yell at them. Yes, she's lost my business forever.

This shop has a decent yarn selection with good variety. When I go there looking for something specific, the staff is very helpful. The couple of times when I have come in to browse, the staff was basically indifferent to me. Seems they only warm up once you are ready to take out your wallet. From a stock perspective, I recommend the shop.

Large selection. Felt unfriendly. Dog needs to be restrained or taught not to trip customers by getting underfoot.

I went to the store hoping to find a certain type of yarn, but the owner explained that the type I wanted isn't made any more. She then proceeded to suggest several other types that might do as well, and let me handle and examine the yarns to make a selection. I found her to be exceptionally knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful. Also, when I was looking for another brand of yarn that she didn't carry, she directed me to another store that did. I don't understand the other posts that said she is unfriendly. I do know that sometimes shyness is sometimes mistaken for snobbishness and unfriendliness. Perhaps that's what's going on here. I highly recommend this store.

Good selection. Shop is a bit untidy. I'll give the owner credit for trying to be friendly, but she does tend to come off indifferent. It does make you feel unwanted. The dog was cute, but I almost step on him/her a couple times.

Selection is okay, but I agree with others that the owner is often unfriendly. I often feel like I am intruding when I come into the store.

Being new to knitting, I've been going here for the past year....Great shop! Beautiful yarns...if they don't have what you want they can quickly order. Donnie (the owner) is wonderful and helpful...Tucker is a love... Barbara amazes me with her ability to teach. Nice comradery amongst the other knitters

I'm amazed that people think the owner is unfriendly. I go to Orlando every year on vacation from Ireland, and Sip & Knit is a must stop for me. The owner remembers me every year, is extremely friendly & chatty and has no issues with my daughter at all. She lets her play with the store dog while we chat & look at the yarn. She knows what I like and always points out new yarns to me that would interest me.
I love this store, and only wish I could be there long enough to go to a knit-in or take some classes.

I used to live in Orlando, and visited this store a few times. The selection was great, but, yes, the owner was unfriendly and actually told my friend and I to just tell her what color we wanted so we wouldn't look through the colors ourselves.
She was, however, very friendly to the other, obviously older, customers.
I'm visiting said friend in the area again, and we went to Knit! instead, because the owner there is WAY more friendly and it's a much more enjoyable experience, even if the selection isn't as great.

I go to this yarn shop all the time, absolutely love it! No hovering, no obnoxious in your face what do you want, very welcoming, and best of all No BS! The owner may seem unfriendly but she's quite the opposite, unless you have kids destroying her yarn, messing with her dog, or generally being rude with her she's very easy to get along with.

I love visiting with the patrons at this shop, the selection is nice, but the owner is a very unfriendly. Her attitude is the main reason I tend to shop elsewhere.

Fantastic selection from baby acrylic to snobby silk, there's something for every knitter and hooker. Combined with the very knowlegible staff and great atmosphere, this is my favorite LYS.

Hi I am Chris and this is my favorite knitting store. Everyone who works there is very helpful and pleasant. I have taken several classes from Barbara and have learned so much, she is excellent. I would highly recommend this store and any of Barbara's classes.

I'm Martha Bruno, and I come to Sip and Knit as often as I can. The staff are kind and gracious, but do not hang over my shoulder when I shop like hungry vultures. Classes are outstanding. The instructor I like best is Barbara, who's skill as a teacher is matched only by her skill with yarn. This is, though, a store for adults and young adults who understand and can respect the stock. The only unpleasantness I've ever seen there over the years is bad manners on the part of some customers. If you're looking for Red Heart yarn, please go to Michaels.

Love this store, with the set up and selection. There's something new around every corner, and it's just a fun place to browse.

The lady there seemed nice enough to me. She didn't hover as if fingerprints would destroy her yarn (like some do) but she welcomed us and was friendly when we were in the same room.

by honeysmudge on Tuesday, Jun 17 2008 at 06:48PM CDT

I love this LYS. I've had lessons from wonderful women there. The owner doesn't hover over people; she lets you fondle yarn and enjoy yourself. This might seem unfriendly to some, but she has always been kind and helpful to me and my friends.

My usual yarn shop, and one of the better selections I've seen locally. The owner can be a bit distant at times.

My only real issue is that this is not a child-friendly shop. I've been told outright that classes and open knits are adult only, and I could not bring my then-infant son in his carrier.

by Anonymous on Tuesday, Feb 26 2008 at 10:31AM CST

Unfortunately, the excellence of its selection is exceeded only by the unfriendliness of the owner.

Great location, possibililties: But unfriendly, sarcastic owner.

I loved this shop! My friends and I were welcomed in and offered something to drink and snack on while we sat and crocheted. :)

Nice yarn selection; indifferent, unfriendly owner.
