LOVE this store. I don't find the husband quirky at all. He was very helpful in pointing out the yarns I could use for the various projects I had in mind. In fact I have been in there three times, and I never met the wife. The selection is mind boggling. I highly recommend this store for the selection, the patterns. Enjoy and have fun but set a limit before going in because you can blow your budget in not time at all.

Limited brands, but enormous selection. Love their hand dyed products and hand spun products. Decent prices. Location leaves something to be desired: you have to venture up a few flights in a non-descript street corner (but many NYC LYSes are like that too, like Habu and Seaport).
But I spent so much time in that store it's not even funny.

This place had a large selection of yarns, but brand-wise, it seemed limited to a few companies. Still a pretty decent store, very quiet. The guy was working there, and was kinda quietly sitting behind the counter, but he was still friendly and tried to help.

I usually go there for the cheap yarn in bulk, and service depends on who is there (the husband is kind of distant, but if you get on his good side he sometimes gives discounts :)). I got a cone of cashmere/merino and he cut off 15 dollars. I gather the wife is the "real" knitter of the store though since she is really nice and has good suggestions.

I was visiting NY and was very disappointed here. The yarn selection and prices were good, but the weird guy running the shop was unfriendly, unhelpful and just plain odd.

I agree with the prices and selection. Both great. Where else can you find so much camel hair, let alone, for a great price. I loved this store and would definitely recommend it. Service was great as well.

When my mother first took me here as an early teen, I was so shocked that there was so much amazing yarn hidden in an obscure building on a random floor! The selection is great, and I have to agree with Ava that you find everything from merino to camel. In my experience, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful (as much as they can be given the occasional peak of customers). There are always a bunch of interesting samples and finished knits all around the store that give me inspiration and new ideas!
