Notes

Salamanca Wool Shop (previously Tasmanian Woollen Co) has been in the hands of Cheryl since 2010. Over this time the shop's layout has been tweaked and the stock is under review. We opened our online store in 2015.

We sell wool, wool in many forms - fine, boiled, felted, knitted, dyed, or blended with other fibres. Sometimes I think the shop has a split personality but it does seem to work. We can help you out on most wool journeys you want to take. You may just want the clothing ready made or a hand crafted piece by a local fibre artisan or you may want to make something out of wool yourself. Well we can help you - we have the clothes, accessories, yarn, needles and patterns.

We carry Tasmanian yarn. White Gum Wool (merino - commercially produced), hand dyed options of White Gum Wool and the Ringrove Collection (mooritt), fleece, hand spun and some limited commercially spun. Off the Sheeps back - a yarn grown, hand spun and dyed in Tasmania. We also carry locally grown Jenmark Alpaca in hand dyed colours.

Also on the shelf are Biggan Design, Heirloom, Touch Yarns, Naturally Yarns, Sublime, Debbie Bliss, Malabrigo, Cascade, Madeline Tosh, Yarns, Zealana (possum/merino).

Knit Night - first Wednesday of the month at Brick Factory in Salamanca Square.
Classes - listed on facebook, our website and in the shop window

In October 2013 we changed our name to Salamanca Wool Shop. Staff have changed a little but still can provide the help you may need to answer your wool questions.

A wonderful store - wish I had discovered it sooner so I could have spent a couple of hours perusing the books and yarns. Made one quick purchase and can't wait to get the pattern book I ordered. Wish the books were on an online order system.

Possibly the best knitting shop I have visited - many others have good yarns - but the quality of work on exhibition and for sale was very special. Lovely to see such quality and originality.

Pricey, but incredibly nice yarns and friendly staff. The store sells pre-made garments in addition to yarns, needles, hooks, and patterns, and the samples are far more innovative than I've seen in most knit-shops around southern Australia. The storefront is tiny with no space to hang out and knit, but plenty of cafes nearby and ocean views make the street a great place to set up a knitting group.
