Wonderful yarn shop! My favorite actually. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Kathleen, the owner is a wonderful lady and all the staff is engaging and helpful. I have been shopping here since they opened. Lovely store. Highly recommend it.

It seems like this store has majorly improved since most of the previous postings, I guess most people don't post if they have a good experience. I was in Pins and Needles a few days ago and found the people working there to be extremely helpful. They have a great selection of high-quality yarns, lots of sock and baby stuff as well. The person working there helped me figure out what yarn would be best for my project and calculate how much I would need and even offered to help if I get stuck. They have lots of samples all over the store with associated patterns if you need ideas and they teach classes as well. They have needlepoint stuff as well and the staff seemed very knowledgeable about that as well as the yarn.

The two times I've been there (once was really busy), they've been super nice and friendly. They took their time to ask if I needed any help but didn't try to oversell anything. They're completely willing to help out on project questions and even knew what book had the answer to a specific question I had. Love their discount section too.

I can sort of agree with previous comments left, however I like that the staff does not jump on you when you walk in the store. Most of the time, I'm coming in just to browse, not necessarily looking for something specific. On a couple occasions I have been asked if I needed help maybe 5 minutes after I've been in the shop and I've already looked around a bit. I have not had any problems getting an employee's attention if I needed assistance. Depending on who is working, they've been neutral or friendly - but never cold. I have shopped there several times and will continue to shop there.

My only complaint is that parking can be difficult, but it's not the shop's fault Princeton is doing some serious construction and has torn up all the metered spots on Wiggins Street.

A friend told me there was a yarn shop a few blocks from the library and I was excited to give it a try. I Googled it and zipped over while my older kids attended a bookclub at the Princeton Library. My seven year old daughter who likes to knit was with me as well as my friend and her daughter. After reading the reviews here I was wary and prepared my friend and we decided to keep the visit short, but we were greeted warmly when we entered and our girls had a nice experience picking out their yarn. The woman who assisted me also told us they offer classes too,but I'm only in Princeton once a month for the bookclub. I will definitely go again, but next I'll bring a list of exactly what I need because it is just too easy for me to get carried away. Wish they had more Lamb's Pride.

I live in Princeton and have been in several times over the last few years. You're right, they are generally strange and cold, but It depends who seems to be in that day. There is one woman with blondish hair that is very nice and helpful. The others are weird and detached, and seem annoyed if you dont buy anything. The biggest issue is that no matter when you go in, it seems to be "kvetch" central for downtown princeton. Everytime i go in, there is someone from another store, a UPS guy or someone else who has stopped in to complain about their job, how rude people are etc. But they never seem to see they do it themselves!
I wuill say that if you are clear what you need or what you're trying to accomplish, they are knowledgable.

Hmmm. I have been there twice in the past year. The first time had no problems, service was good, I was asked for assitance and no problems when told no I wanted to browse a bit. Found what I needed yarn wise. They answered my needle questions, out of stock, check back in a week to see if it is in. Friendly enough for me. Good selection of yarns. Second time, yarn wher not displayed well, all by color, which can be nice, but found it impossible to sort through for a specific project, but they did have the lace needles I wanted. I would shop there again.

wow...the above post sounds exactly like the customer complaint i emailed the store several minutes ago (though i doubt they even care about that sort of thing.) i'd been in the store a couple of times, with decent service overall. i walked in today intending to buy some lamb's pride wool, and was the only customer in the store. when they didn't have the color i was looking for on display, i went up to an employee, who referred me to another employee, who was sitting at a worktable in the front of the store having a gossipy conversation with yet ANOTHER employee. I stood about two feet from them, made eye contact repeatedly, and stood there patiently for five minutes. they continued talking, not even bothering to address me, and when i realized there was no way they'd offer me any assistance i left. i work at another independent store in princeton, and i'd never think to treat a customer so rudely, especially one that was being super patient considering the circumstances. i will probably never go there again, because they're effin' jerks.

Awful service. There were only three people in the store including salespeople, but I was completely ignored for at least 5 minutes. The first was complaining to the second about a rude customer. I finally gave up waiting for someone to notice me and asked the complainer whether or not they carried Euroflax. She told the third person in the store to help me, who in turn told me no. That was it. I left. No idea about prices, but stock-wise, in the middle of summer they had a wool sweater in the window and no linen yarn.
