Love this shop- up scale, beautiful yarn and nice atmosphere. Cindy and her staff are incredibly knowledge and very helpful. I live in Eugene and this store is always one of my top picks to go to when traveling up there. My friends and I came up for another fantastic Rose City Yarn Crawl and were excited to show one of our friends this shop for the first time. Rave reviews all around.

I had the pleasure of attending the Fiber Fanatics Thursday knit night while in Portland on my vacation (10/3/2013). Everyone was a welcoming eclectic mix of people. thank you so much for including me in your conversations that evening. The owner was wonderful and helped me to pick out a project to work on while there, since I forgot to tote my knitting bag with me to dinner.

You'd think that being within walking distance of two other yarn shops would make staying in business hard, but that just means that the shop has to be fabulous to thrive. I've never been disappointed when I've gone into Pearl Fiber Arts. The shop may be small, but the selection is intriguing, with yarns that are hard to find elsewhere and lovely spinning fiber that can be bought by the ounce. The owner is friendly and helpful, and really knows her yarns. Watch for the stash sale on Labor Day weekend.

Definitely one of my favorite shops on the 2013 Rose City Yarn Crawl! Loved the variety of yarns and accessories! For example, one of my companion crawlers purchased a 'yarn box' (like a yarn bowl but made of thin wood with a lid) that is a beautiful art piece as well as a functional knitting tool. We didn't see those anywhere else! This is a yarn shop with individuality and originality - don't miss!

Portland has so many amazing yarn shoppes, we are a lucky lot! This one looked small and I thought, oh must have same things I've seen everywhere right? WRONG! FILLED WITH STUFF NO BODY HAS. Owner was so helpful to my sorry little self, who always needs a great deal of help. Even the other shoppers came over to help with suggestions of patterns and Cindy was right there to look things up on the internet and Ravelry for me. My husband waited forever as usual and I couldn't wait til I could head back in during a lunch hour for more of the wonderful Alexandra's Crafts to make a Wild and Woolly hat for holiday gifts, yes a free pattern from the store. Love the notions and little gizmos too... a wonderful place.

My overall impression of this store is very favorable.
I went in search of roving and spindles to start my maiden voyage into drop spinning.

The roving was well priced and I thought there were a good selection to choose from. However, the shop's assortment of spindles were limited and prohibitively expensive for a beginning spinner. I later found out the one of the two styles available at the store were actually a limited addition anniversary spindle. While it was very pretty it was not something I wanted to try to spin with and drop on the floor repeatedly. I will be back for more roving and yarn in the future.

I thought the staff was knowledgable and very willing to answer any questions I had.

I happened to cross this shop when I was walking around the Pearl. Decided to go in for a minute and fell in love. I love that there is a whole section dedicated for local suppliers! Plus the owner was so friendly and helpful! I plan to make more trips here!

The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming here, and the shop owner Cindy is very helpful. They have a unique selection of spinning fiber, hand-dyed yarn, and handspun yarn from local fiber artists. They had a great stash-buster sale this year, which I hope they do again.

Portland is saturated with yarn shops, many closer to my home and/or work. However, Urban Fiber Arts keeps me coming back. Brightly lit with room to explore, the owner has created a warm and welcoming space for the fiber community to gather. Supplies for Knitters, Crocheters and Spinners are plentiful, with an emphasis on local products of high quality. Cindy is very knowledgeable and very willing to help out with any questions you may have about knitting, spinning, etc. Do not let the parking keep you from this store. If you don't want to fight for parking, the Portland Streetcar goes right by the shop on NW 11th!

This has quickly become my favorite yarn and fiber store in all of Portland!

I went to Urban Fiber Arts on my vacation in Feb. and found a wonderful store full of beautiful yarns. I have never seen so many beautiful colors and rich colors that I would want to use. The owner of the shop is very nice. Thank you Mandy for showing me the store. I want to order yarn from the shop and will do so in a couple of days.

Urban Fiber Arts also carries my hand dyed products, but even if that weren't the case I would still sing praises for this wonderful shop! :D I love that all the merchandise is carefully selected and of exceptional quality. The atmosphere is friendly and the customer service outstanding!

I love this shop. This is the best place to go for all of your spinning and knitting needs.

I love this store. Cindy is so nice, but watch out: she's an enabler just sitting there amongst all the yarn glory!!

by edenkitty on Friday, Mar 18 2011 at 04:48AM CDT

Visited them recently on the 2011 PDX Knit Crawl! My sister and I visited all twenty stores in two days! They were so welcoming! Seriously! They were so knowledgeable about fiber and yarn and were helpful if I had any questions, and even answered a few before they came out of my mouth!

I would give them my award for "Best Fiber in Portland!" They have great selection of fiber to spin and good prices! So many ways to say I love you to this shop! A great first impression, and I know I'll be visiting them again soon.

Absolutely LOVED this little shop. the owner was so friendly, and there was a good mix of yarns to drool over. She'll definitely be getting my business!

This is such a welcoming place! I went here for a knit night and to do a little research on spinning wheels and fiber. The owner, Cindy, is so friendly and she's very knowledgeable with fiber. I love how she carries natural fiber by the ounce (which is a good way to get started). The stuff she carries is great quality and a lot of it is local!

I love how their yarn is organized. There's a big sign with the yarn specs along with where it came from. You can tell a lot of love was put into this store. I really felt at home. Even though the parking sucks at times, this shop is going to be a regular shop for me.

Did my first Seattle to Porland Train Trip on Jan. 15th. Just started knitting in spring of last year, so I couldn't wait to go and check out the stores. Found Shephard's Wool Yarn at Urban Fibers. I love it and will definately stop by their store next time I'm in Portland. Want to thank all the staff at Urban Fiber for putting up with crowd from the yarn train. Everyone was helpful and full of information.

Recommend anyone looking for nice yarn to stop in and visit with the staff there.

Disclaimer: I know Cindy, the owner, and she's selling my abacus row counting bracelets in her shop on consignment. That out of the way, I visited the shop for the first time Saturday the 15th, during the Seattle to Portland Yarn Train event. UFA is right off the streetcar line, and surrounded by interesting shops.

Even being crowded as heck due to 200-odd knitters from Seattle hitting the downtown yarn shops, Cindy and her staff were keeping up with everyone. And the yarns! She carries some standard lines, like Crystal Palace Mochi - but also yarns I'd never run into, like Stonehedge Fiber Mill's Shepherd's Wool; a lovely worsted finewool in 250-yd. skeins. (I got two. *g* Nice and soft, and wonderful colors.) She's specializing in local yarns, fibers and dyers, and boy, were there choices! Lots of yarns and rovings by local dyers, Imperial Stock Ranch yarns, and more than I can remember. Plus locally-made stitch markers, great notions and tools, and especially the wonderful shawl pins and buttons made by Tool Man. It was a wonderful visit, and I plan to save up and go back as soon as possible. I want enough of the Shepherd's Wool for a sweater. ;)

In a town full of yarn shops, this one stands out. Here you'll find yarn, fiber, and patterns produced by local artitsts and the friendliest shop owner in town. The shop is brightly lit so it's easy to see the colors and fiber, there's plenty of room to move around, there are comfy chairs and the kettle is always on. Definitely a must visit shop!
