I'm from the Tulsa area, but moved away in the P.L. (pre-Loops) era. When they opened, my mom told me all about it, so now every time I'm in town, I'm sure to visit. Generally I end up spending much more than I intend, but that's mainly because they have all the great new yarns and books I've been reading about online and in magazines but haven't wanted to buy sight-unseen. When I can see them myself, I realize I really do want them. :)

The yarns are priced well - they won't always be as cheap as you can find them some places online, but LYSes have to pay overhead and your friendly internet retailer does not. The benefit is that the LYS has the staff there to help you out if you need advice or have a question.

I also really like that they support fiber artists like Stephanie Japel and Anna Hrachovec. Anna even created a specially commissioned toy designed just for Loops, the Looper!

Super friendly ad knowledgeable staff and a fabulous selection of yarn. Loops is one of those places that you just feel comfortable spending time in. I've spent hours just looking around and have never been made to feel uncomfortable or pressured to purchase (but who could resist!?). This is definitely a first class and well run business!

Just to add, the new south Tulsa location is every bit as awesome! It's feel is a bit different...open, airy, clean lines, etc., but it is also welcoming and has a great (and slightly different) selection of yarn. The only downside is that it's so close to home that I might have to shop there every day!

WOW! Hiring people with only six years experiance when there are people with more knowlege out there to help your customers. NOT good!!!!

by Michelle on Thursday, Jul 01 2010 at 06:59PM CDT

I used to feel like Loops was a snooty place due to one particular employee who is apparently no longer there. However, I have seriously revised my opinion! Lately I have shopped the store several times and couldn't have gotten better service or friendlier faces.

Loops is just a comfortable store to browse and shop. I have felt very welcome to come in and look for as long as I like, touch and compare different fibers. Plus, it's the only LYS here that carries some of the truly high end yarns.

All of the Loops sales staff is very knowledgable about the fibers and also about the inventory, what is and is not being re-ordered or is on its way. Plus, they are very organized with customer records. And, the staff will give you a friendly greeting and offer to help, but is happy to leave you alone and let you browse to your hearts content.

I look forward their second store opening so much closer to me!

I live a state away, but Loops has the best newsletter bar-none! I can always get a feel for the trends and up and coming patterns. I have bought patterns online and when I called on the phone, I was treated to excellent customer service. I plan on stopping by if I am ever driving through Tulsa, but until then, I will continue to be an online customer

I go to Tulsa several times a year and always stop by Loops. I think it is a great store. There have been times I was greeted the moment I walked in and other times where I wasn't but I am not complaining. It is obvious to see that the employees are sometimes busy with other customers. I've never felt like it was a snooty place. I love their selection of yarn. I think there is something there for everyone.

Hi, I'm a single mother and full time college student. I live off of financial aid and do not work. I come in a few times a year, especially around financial aid refund time. I come in sweaty, carrying my bags, and wearing worn out clothing with quite a few holes. I wear no makeup, my hair is a mess from the walk, and I generally look my income level.

Yet they know me by name. I might have to wait for them to finish helping a person or two before they get to me, but I certainly do not think that needing to wait my turn makes the staff snooty. Rather it makes them fair. When they get to me there is always warm greetings, and some have even remembered a few of my projects and commented on them to others. I've even had hugs. That's right. A sweaty urchin got hugs from the so called snooty staff. And I only come in a couple of times a year.

I wonder if the people who find them snooty came in with preconceived notions due to the shopping area, or if they expected the staff to drop everything and rush over to them, rather than finish the help they were giving to a client already.

Loops rocks! I appreciate that I can fondle yarns and browse accessories at my leisure in the store but also get top-notch service as soon as I speak up. I recently wanted to try a new technique but was having no luck with it, so I took the project into the store and asked for help. Two of the Loops Troops took a team approach to help me out. My mom (a non-knitter) was with me and commented when we left the store that "every store can take a lesson from them" because "every time I've been in there with you they've always been so nice and acted more like they care about you than about what you might buy". I also really like their selection of local products, including yarns, bags, and accessories.

Loops is my go to LYS! Great service, great selection of yarns, Great classes. Love the staff.

by Sharon on Sunday, Jun 28 2009 at 02:29PM CDT

My favorite local yarn store by far!

by L on Sunday, Jun 28 2009 at 03:26AM CDT

Not a friendly store at all. Very snooty staff. Hardly ever greeted the few times I was in. The employees do have their favorites. The yarn selection is great, but the staff is lacking. There are much friendlier stores in town such as Stitches and Stitchoworks.

by jannylynn on Sunday, Jun 28 2009 at 02:09AM CDT

LOOPS is the best store for yarn, employees, and making you feel like you're family. The staff is so helpful. I totally disagree with Lala about LOOPS. My first time to LOOPS was kind of scary because I wasn't a very good knitter and I didn't know how I would be treated. Well, when I walked into the store, everyone greeted me in such a friendly manner and they were so willing to help me that I immediately felt comfortable. Not once have the sales people been rude, snooty, or unfriendly. I try to go there on my lunch hour every chance I can get and I have fun. It has a such a relaxing atomsphere. I wouldn't trade the people and friends for all the yarn in Tulsa. When I'm there and people come in, they are greeted in a friendly manner no matter how busy they are and will help you as soon as they can. LOOPS is a great place to knit, meet people and have some fun and laughs. LOOPS rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Living in Kansas, I always travel to Tulsa with LOOPS on my mind. The patrons, staff and owner are always gracious - Great Store with GREAT PEOPLE and FANTASTIC service!!!!!!!!!!!! The yarn inventory is one of the best in the midwest!!! If you want something exciting and new in yarn - LOOPS is the place to go.

by barnydoodle on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 09:42PM CDT

I travel to Tulsa once or twice a year and always come into the store. They have a good selection of yarns - I like that they have stuff that the stores near home don't carry. They let me alone while I check everything out. Before I leave, I usually end up talking to somebody and stay at the store way longer than I originally intended. Next trip, I will allow more time here when I'm planning my day!

by jennyrock on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 08:06PM CDT

I love going to this store. The people working there are very friendly and helpful. They have a wonderful selection of yarns and patterns.

by loopslady on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 03:11AM CDT

What a cool site this is! Thanks to everyone for your comments. It is true we are in an upscale (but also very charming, eclectic and convenient) shopping center, and we've known from day one we would have to work extra hard to overcome the "snooty" stereotype that some people associate with Utica Square. We talk at every monthly employee meeting about making sure everyone always feels welcome and inspired. This is particularly important to me, since one prime reason I founded the store was that I used to feel less-than-welcome at yarn stores. As Elabeth know, a yarn shop is more than a store - it's a community (her Arkansas store, Stringtown, also rocks by the way). I love seeing our "regulars" and I also love meeting new, interesting people - it's one of the true joys of the retail biz. I did post in our Loopalicious ravelry group, sharing this newfound site and asking people to, quote, "write a quick blurb about Loops." Didn't ask for "nice." We welcome all feedback - nice or not. Besides me, only one of our Loops Troops employees has posted (ginamarie - who "outed" herself in her post). And please, if anyone ever has feedback, feel free to email me directly (shelley@loopsknitting.com). We will happily respond!

by brendafinkle on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 03:00AM CDT

Lala, I'm sorry you feel the way you do about Loops. I think the thread demonstrates that the store embraces all knitters. Beyond that we can't change how you feel but many of the women that responded to this site are not employees - many work full time at other professions - some may even hold two jobs. Some of us work enough hours it might as well be two jobs. ha! Loops fills a need many of us have - the one for companionship with those that have the same interest/passion we do. I hope you find a store that meets your needs and makes you feel welcome! For me, Loops is my store of choice - and, BTW, my purse only cost $30.00. ;-))

Be happy - knit more!

by Lee Ann on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 01:28AM CDT

Loops is my favorite place to participate in the knitting/crocheting hobby I love. I've sat on the couch many Saturdays and listened to the staff greet each and every customer who walks through the door. Even most of the customers look up, smile and sometimes verbally greet people they've never met before! The classes are expertly taught; the shop is clean and organized; troops seem genuinely glad to work there; lots of choices running the gamut from moderate to expensive. Truly something for everyone.

by elabeth on Saturday, Jun 27 2009 at 01:16AM CDT

I've only been to Loops a few times, but I've never had any trouble getting help when I needed it and have never felt like anyone was being snooty to me. It's one of my favorite yarn stores in Oklahoma :)

by b sue on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 10:33PM CDT

This is in response to Lala. I'm certainly no snappy dresser, (usually very casual, comfortable clothing, think Wal-Mart/Target/JC Penney sales) most times when I visit, I pull up in a car splatter by red Oklahoma mud (I live on a "used to be gravel road" that is mostly mud now when it rains). The staff has never failed to greet me (multiple people as I peruse the store) check back with me often, and are ever so helpful when I have a question. I do however "wait my turn" when necessary. If you go on a day of a big sale, or scheduled multiple classes, they're helping lots of people. Yes there are several staff members there, but who can afford to employ a one-to-one customer ratio? They will "help" you work out any knitting or pattern problems you drop in for help with too. Just realize most weekends are pretty busy, all of us full-time working wives & moms are trying to get in & out on Saturdays, so we can dedicate time with our families on Sunday when possible. For those that work Saturdays too, being open on Sunday is a big plus! They always offer my husband a coffee, and point out the couch if he's so inclined. I don't live in the area, so my trips aren't so frequent that they would normally remember who I am (once a month if I'm lucky). So I really believe I could be somewhat of a "secret shopper" in assessing and rating their shop.

by Ruth on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 09:32PM CDT

Tulsa is extremely lucky to have Loops! Shelley and the "Loops Troops" are awesome. Always happy to help you chose a project, correct a knitting error, figure out a pattern, offer you something to drink/eat, ...whatever! Yarns in all price ranges are carried and the selection is always great. The area of town in which Loops is located is very charming so it is always a fun outing!

by Lala on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 09:17PM CDT

The owner of this store has posted on the store's Ravelry directing people to this site and asking that they say something nice to counter the "snooty" comments so all the reviews and comments by people who work there are pretty much worthless at this point.

The store is located in an upscale shopping area. They carry mostly exclusive, high end yarns, and yes they do give off a "snooty" vibe. If they don't know you or you don't look like you're wealthy they will not fall all over themselves to help you. I don't think that is really a bad thing because I don't like pushy salespeople, but if you want to be waited on hand and foot (or you just want them to say hi to you before you're ready to check out) be sure to wear your nicest outfit and carry an expensive bag.

by Betty on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 09:08PM CDT

I LOVE THIS STORE!!!! The selection is wonderful, budget yarns and luxury yarns too, all of best qualities. Tools and accessories are stocked in great quantities too. If they don't have it, they will order it for you (very rarely needed). The staff are an equal part of what makes Loops so nice to visit and order from. Shelley has the greatest staff of any LYS I’ve ever been to. They all check on you, but aren't the hovering type. Very knowledgeable about all the techniques, (knit & crochet) quick to give recommendations, will lead you to less expensive alternatives if you ask. I've ordered by mail a few times, and have had only good experiences. They are quick to resolve any problems that may have occurred. The staff will walk you through choices on the phone too. I live about 2 1/2 hours away, and am always excited when we have the opportunity to visit Tulsa for the weekend, because I know I always get to visit Loops. Another plus is that Loops is open every day, (excepting the very special holidays) so if another event interferes on Friday or Saturday, I can still go on Sunday before we leave Tulsa. Of course if I get to go Friday or Saturday, I'm usually back on Sunday, to pick up the yarn, pattern, or book I wasn't quite sure I should get. Sometimes it's a price factor, or deciding what I can make from the particular selection (sometimes it's just a coveting thing). My husband certainly encourages me too. He willingly holds my multiple totes, and is always pointing out something nice that my eyes missed the first or second time around.

by Shaineinok on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 08:55PM CDT

Loops is a great yarn store. Friendly staff with a big selection. I don't go nearly as often as I would like too.

by luckybinks on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 08:32PM CDT

I have taken some excellent classes at this store, and always find some I want to take when each month's list is published. Loops publishes some great original patterns, and they carry some local yarns so you can get a true Oklahoma yarny souvenir there!

by Sara6908 on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 08:30PM CDT

I absolutely LOVE this store. It is the ONLY store in the area that i feel totally welcome at. The Loops Troops are extremely helpful and friendly and you are always greeted with a smile.

by Julie on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 07:45PM CDT

I really like this store. I came from 3 hours away to attend the Habu Trunk Show and take a japanese pattern reading class. I had my 12 year old daughter in tow and both of us were treated so very well. They were kind to my daughter who was waiting for me during class. I have shopped with them online and got great service. They have a nice selection of yarns. I will definitely go back - my daughter is begging me for another "road trip" to Tulsa.

by Phara on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 07:00PM CDT

Loops ROCKS!!!! The yarn is to dye for...sorry, couldn't help myself...Love the atmosphere, the staff is the best around, and I've made great friends...what more could a girl ask for!

by Penny on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 05:15PM CDT

I love Loops, and my kids love the playroom! They can play for hours while I shop and knit :) It's a very friendly shop, with a huge selection of yarn, books and magazines, and great buttons! I love that I can browse the books and fondle the yarn, and the employees don't hover, yet as soon as I have a question, they are ready and willing to help. I am fortunate enough to work within walking distance of Loops, and often pop in to knit for a few minutes at lunch. Sometimes I buy something, and sometimes I just sit and knit, and I feel welcome everytime :)

by rori on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 04:05PM CDT

Loops reminds me of Cheers, once you go in, everybody knows your name, welcomes you and makes you feel right at home. The shop is awesome in that if you have questions you can ask anyone in there and everyone is ready to help. Suggestions and ideas swarm around the shop. Sunday knitting is awesome everyone should come out and visit.

by Sandi on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 04:04PM CDT

I love Loops! The first time I went with my Mom and sister we were greeted at the door by one of the staff who immediately showed us some great projects that would be perfect for a beginner without being mind-numbingly boring. Everything from the staff to the classes is amazing.

by Lynn on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 03:08PM CDT

Loops is the best. Every time I come in the store I feel like I just came home. The staff is amazing. The yarns are awesome. The presentation is inspiring to new and not so new knitters. The project wall and numerous samples make choosing a project much easier when you can see it already completed. If the yarn the sample is made of is out of my price range the staff is great at finding alternative yarn choices. Check Loops out.

by sdchimblo on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 02:58PM CDT

i love this LYS! Whenever I go, the staff is always friendly. They are eager to look at WIP or compliment finished projects. The yarn is arranged in a way that makes it easy to find what you are looking for! Sock night and their Friday night knitting groups are fun to go to! They even have a playroom for your kiddos!

by Tracy on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 01:35PM CDT

I love Loops! The first time I went in, I was completely bowled over by the selection. It is the kind of yarn you want to roll around in :) I was intimidated because I was an inexperienced knitter with a small budget. What a shock when that didn't matter to the staff. They were just as interested in helping me find my one or two special skeins as they were in helping the lady buying an afghan worth. The staff are wonderful--technically savvy and with good taste and great humor. They are very happy to help with suggestions and substitutions. I love that they allow me to browse in peace, but check every now and then to see if I need any help.

by brendafinkle on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 12:58PM CDT

I drive 2 hours to shop at Loops. I felt right at home the first time I entered the store. The staff allows you to shop, explore and spend hours going through books, magazines, yarn etc without hovering. When you have a question - they are quick to respond with suggestions. They know what they have and what will work with your project at all price points. Love that!! I have attended classes that are not available, to my knowledge, in the rest of the state. Sally Melville book signing and sizing class, recently a class on reading Japenese knitting patterns from Takako of Habu knits/textiles. Really looking forward to a fun evening on July 11th with Trish from Tanglewood Fibers! I have made friends with the ladies that knit and work at Loops - I look forward to my time there. Check it out on a Saturday and join the ladies knitting in the store! Too much fun!!

by Annie Saltsman on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 12:54PM CDT

I can honestly say that I would not be a knitter today had I not found Loops a little over two years ago! I love the store and adore the staff! They're able to help me with everything from great classes to the perfect yarn substitution! I've made great friends since discovering Loops ~ and I'm sooo happy they exist!!!

by Kitten on Friday, Jun 26 2009 at 12:38PM CDT

I wouldn't say they're snooty, but they have regular customers that the staff clearly prefers. If they don't know you, then they mostly ignore you or look at you funny then go back to their conversation/knitting with the regulars. That said, they do have a good selection of yarn and are very well organized.

by ginamarie on Thursday, Jun 25 2009 at 02:05PM CDT

I love Loops! Friendly service, knowledgeable, fun, organized and they have an awesome website. The website has internet shopping and a blog which is updated at least weekly. I am such a groupie I had to work there. Shelley, the owner, is not only great to work for, she has a fresh approach to her store. Come see us!

by Michelle T. on Sunday, Jun 21 2009 at 11:28PM CDT

This store has a very good selection of higher-end yarns. They do carry a selection of moderately priced yarns as well, but tend to be higher prices than other stores in the area. Staff is knowledgable, but a bit aloof. The atmosphere would be great because there are yummy yarns everywhere, but there is an air of snootyness.

by Janet Russell on Thursday, Apr 17 2008 at 09:53AM CDT

Awesome shop! I enjoyed myself here and bought sock yarn and needles. I can't wait to go back!
