I am a knitting whore. I will knit anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. That said, La Knitterie is, by far, the best knitting store in Los Angeles County. In addition to having the largest selection of yarns, tools, books, and buttons, the prices are very reasonable for the yarns they carry. They are so well-stocked, that I often mail order yarn from them when I am working out of town, because even with the added postage, I still end up paying less. Recently they special ordered me ONE skein of discontinued yard from URUGUAY.

In addition to the quality and quantity of the yarn, Edith Eig, the owner is an excellent knitter. I know, it should be a given that a the owner of a yarn store is a good knitter, but sadly
there are many knitting stores that are owned by extremely nice people who are not advanced enough in their own skills to help knitters really progress past knitting the simplest things.
I like to knit on the edge of my ability, and I know that I can always come to Edith for help if I get stuck in a pattern...something I cannot say about many other knitting stores. Also, Edith is an expert pattern maker. I can bring in a photograph of a sweater or just explain what I want and as long as I buy the yarn from her, Edith will write me a custom pattern FOR FREE. Genius!

For those commenters complaining that the yarn isn't priced, it takes 30 seconds to walk up to the counter and ask the staff for help.

Prices are not marked.
Somewhat cluttered.
Not as friendly as I would have liked.

Visited this store a year ago and loved it. The amount of yarn they stock is mind-boggling - so much to choose from! Prices are reasonable - staff is helpful. Can't wait to visit again!

I enjoy my visits to this yarn store. Edith and her husband are lovely people who are friendly and welcoming. I am originally from Europe and love the extensive selection of German, French and Italian yarns that other stores do not carry. The store has more selection than any other store that I have ever visited. Also, the prices are much lower than at other stores.

First of all. This is Edith Eig's shop. She was very friendly when I stopped in. Her husband was running the cash register. For someone with such notoriety, she seemed very down to earth and interested in what I was working on. There's a small space where you can sit and knit and celeb watch. (this is the Yarn shop of the Stars). There are many price-points to fit anyone's budget (or blow it if you'd like). I found many yarn brands that I have not seen anywhere else in my travels and some old familiar names like Artyarns. I don't remember seeing any price tags on any of the yarns.. i suppose if you have to ask.... however, at the register I found that the prices were comparable to other stores I'd shopped at. I would definately say this is a must see place, go in, buy her book(s) Mother of Purl, she's more than happy to inscribe it for you as well.
