I have been to a lot of yarn shops and I feel lucky to have such a beautiful shop in my neck of the woods. I am a bit biased since I work there and teach there, but even before I started all of that, I knew this was a unique place. Anyone passing by Hood River needs to come in and say hi and see all the fantastic yarns and meet the great peeps who work there.

I stumbled across this shop a few weeks ago when my family and I were in Hood River. They have a beautiful store and great selection of yarn I wasn't impressed with the customer service. The store wasn't busy, except for a few gals knitting with friends. I looked around for quite awhile, and I didn't even get a friendly hello. The gal that was working was more concerned with talking with her friends and herself. I wasn't expecting to be treated like a queen, but a hello wouldn've been nice. I walked out and didn't buy anything, even though I wasnted to.

I love this place!!! Great selection of both types of yarns and colors of yarn. All the help you want with picking an appropriate project. In fact I wouldn't still be knitting but for the expert help I get here. These ladies are the best! They are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and just plain fun.

Whenever I am traveling, I use Knitmap to find the local shops. I went to Knot Another Hat and was THRILLED. First of all, the atmosphere, view, locale could not be better. The owner was super sweet & showed me all the local yarns. When I travel, I love to buy something that I could not get anywhere, & they had a large selection of Oregon yarns. After much discussion, I settled on two gorgeous hanks of llama from a local mill.

If I lived in Hood River I would be here all the time!

Recently I looked up my local yarn shop on Knitmap to send the link to an out of town acquaintance who is headed this way. Upon finding the shop, I was saddened to read an off-base comment from a customer. I can't give this comment too much credence, as it begins by stating that her knitting group has had other yarn shop experiences she describes as their "sordid yarn store pasts". This indicates to me that this person is the type who looks for things to criticize and even seeks to feel wronged so that she has something to complain about. Nonetheless, it was disappointing to find that someone would post this.

Back to Knot Another Hat, which is my beloved LYS. I have spent a good deal of time there and have witnessed over and over the extent to which the staff extends a welcome and goes beyond expectations to help ALL customers. This is NOT a locals-only shop, as Hood River has a strong tourism-based economy and many of the shop patrons are visitors, especially on weekends. It sounds like the customer who made the comment was indeed there at a time when the employee was helping another customer with a complex problem. This happens - I'm constantly surprised at the things I hear customers ask for, but the employees there go out of their way to help all and do not ignore other customers who come into the store at the same time. I find it very difficult to believe that this customer was given no attention and that the employee wouldn't let her buy the pattern she wanted, resulting in her being forced to buy 2 patterns. This is not the way things work there (and just makes no sense)! I'm familiar with the bolero knitted up in the shop and the pattern in question is available in TWO forms for different gauges. I am sure the employee was just trying to make it clear that the customer needed the correct pattern for the yarn she was planning to use.

I have visited yarn shops in several parts of the country and each time I am reminded how lucky I am that KAH is my LYS because of the quality/quantity of merchandise, organization, competitive pricing, general atmosphere and excellent service. My message to non-locals: Come to Hood River!

P.S. When you search Knitmap by the zip code (97031), this yarn shop does not show up. However, when you search by "Hood River, OR", it does. Something is not right with the database.

Me and my stitch group were in Hood River for a girls weekend, so of course we wanted to check out this LYS. Imagine our surprise when we had some of the worst yarn store experiences of our sordid yarn store pasts! First, we were not greeted as we entered, which I could have overlooked if we had been given ANY attention thereafter. The employee was focusing her attention on a gal who was trying to adapt a pattern...no doubt a complex question, but hardly "urgent" when we were clearly waiting for some assistance to simply find a pattern of a bolero that was knitted up and displayed in the store. I actually had to physically interrupt to get some help. Then, at checkout, I was told that the pattern I was buying was not the correct one for the yarn I was buying, and I ended up buying both since the employee was not going to let me get the one I wanted! The employee was rude, dismissive, and generally unwelcoming. I wish I had not spent $ there. Apparently, beware non-locals!

Welcoming atmosphere and always helpful - whether you need help selecting the right yarn for your project or help with your project. I regularly come in to knit on Sundays!

Spent the weekend here with SunflowerCompass. We had a terrific time in the shop and knitting the hours away. This place really got me hooked.

Stumbled onto this gem while on a weekend get-away with a friend and boy, were we impressed! Wide selection, comfortable and friendly, beautifully displayed and a great view make this shop one of the best!

My favorite little slice of wool heaven! Great selection, the best help around, and really nice people! I always feel like I'm meeting friends when I stop in at KAH! Be sure to check out their great selection of Miner Creek Alpaca, among the many terrific yarns - yum!
