I really like this little knitting shop. It's nothing fancy, but the owner is super nice and super helpful. She's never been anything but friendly and full of suggestions for me. As a novice knitter, it's really nice to walk in with a bunch of questions and know that someone's going to help me find the right yarn and even help me with technique. I agree with the one who said not so much a store as a casual little knitting school. The table in the center is always full of people knitting. Haven't yet joined them, but maybe someday.
I also think this shop has the best buttons around, in case that matters to anyone else!
On the down side, the hours are extremely limited. Currently, Tues-Wed and Fri-Sat -- but sometimes I turn up and the shop is closed for vacation, so maybe call ahead if the shop is out of your way.

I go into the Knitting' Kitten every few weeks and even though there is limited space for product, the owner is willing to order any specific yarn I am looking for. She is super helpful and will pull out sample books of yarns to help me find the right color. She helped me decipher a pattern that was stumping me - turns out it was a written fault. She has some books and magazines but her store is much more about the yarn. The other customers sit around a large central table just chatting and knitting, and everyone is very interested in whatever project you are working on. The only drawback are the limited hours, but hey, if I could have my own business with a four day work week, I might just too!

Over the last 12 years, I have gone into the Knittin' Kitten about 6 times. My experience is always the same. The owner is rude and unwelcoming and looks at me as if she wishes I would leave immediately. Whatever it is that I ask for, it is never in stock. I can't figure it out! Every couple of years, I think I'll give it another chance and the same thing happens all over again. Give it a miss.

Mrs. Wedlock's shop, the Knittin Kitten is as much an informal, friendly school as it is a well-stocked shop. The owner knows mcuh more about knitting than the average knit-store operator and is invariablly cheerful and willing to help, whether you are designing a complex piece, or just learning how to knit or purl. Usually a few customers are there knitting a way, and they are friendly and helpful too.

I was put off the first time I went in, but if this happens to you don't give up. The owner is FABULOUS, will spend tons of time with you, and can fix any problem. She has lots of yarns to choose from and many patterns that she has written over the years.
