Nice selection of yarn

by Lisa Tankersley on Tuesday, Jun 10 2014 at 07:08AM CDT

This Lisa is with Lisa Tuttle on her assessment. The selection in amazing- but the warmth comes from the yarn, not the staff. I have been in there twice now, and the feel of the place remains the same. In addition, suggestions are not so much given as told. All of the sales associates were there on one day as it was an advertised yarn crawl. They were having too much fun with each other to worry about the clientele.

What bothered me the most was when I was checking out I felt like I was being coerced into having them wind the yarn into cakes for me. Frankly, I make my own ball winders and swifts- and enjoy the winding process- so I ended up having to tell the woman "No thanks, I'll do it myself," three times before she stopped pestering me- and then she gave me an air as if I'm stupid for not letting her do it for me.

Let's face it; if they wind it, we can't return it. Plus I really do find winding cathartic.

I won't say I won't go back as it is the closest store to my home, but it's definitely no my first, second, or third choice.

This store has a fantastic selection -- really nice. But I always feel a little like I'm interrupting the staff from their own knitting when I walk in. For instance, they'll always finish their conversation amongst themselves before greeting me. And then when for the first time I went in with a mistake I couldn't fix myself and asked for help, I felt like I they were irritated with me. They fixed my mistake without trying to show me how they were fixing it but just fixing it and handing it back over without even meeting my eyes. I'd purchased the yarn for this particular project -- over $100 worth of yarn -- at this store. I was really surprised. This is the yarn shop closest to my new home, and I really wish I felt like they were happy to see me. I'm hoping that over the next year or so, when they see me over and over again, they'll start to welcome me more. But I wish they were just FRIENDLIER. I'm hoping they'll see this and maybe consider how they appear to new customers.

I loved this store. Great yarn, great people, great advice! If you are close or not make the trip and visit it. You will not be disappointed.

I heard about this store from my dentist (long story) and just had to pay it a visit, since there aren't many yarn stores in the greater Cincinnati area. Well-lit, cozy without being cluttered, well-organized, and the staff were friendly and courteous. I think I've found a new LYS!
