The new owners , my daughter Gretchen and her wife Rachel Fowler have really stepped up the atmosphere, stock and staff service since taking over in 2016.
If you haven't been by lately you'll be excited to see all the changes and the wonderful things they've added!
Lots of new patterns and support for knitters and crocheters as well.'

This place is amazing! The largest selection of fiber related items I have ever seen in one place. I was overwhelmed with awe when I got there. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff and you can explore to your hearts content. This is my absolute favorite shop!

I visited Halcyon once last year, but I haven't gotten to reviewing it until now.

One thing I have to say first is that the selection here is HUGE! Specifically for the weaver or spinner. They've even got an elevator that goes to the second floor and that holds their weaving/spinning showroom (as well as their classroom). Every type of spinning wheel and loom imaginable. For the knitter they don't have as much, but what they have is quite pricey. Note that there are many things they stock are from local craftsmen or dyers. There's also a Halcyon brand line of yarns that are dyed in Biddeford.

The service is fine. It's not the worst I've ever had, but it's also not the best.

With that in mind, if I go back near the area, I would still like to stop by Halcyon Yarns again so I can browse more. :)

A huge selection of yarn and spinning supplies. The service and atmosphere was so-so. When I asked for the free pattern that was suggested to go along with the yarn I was purchasing, they seemed a little put out. But I am happy with my yarn and the pattern they reluctantly gave me! It is their hand-dyed 2/5 silk. Feels beautiful.

The staff was gossipy and rude to the point where it seriously put off my boyfriend, whose yarn selections they actually SNICKERED at. He happened to love those off-dye-lot skeins of silky malabrigo and he made a fantastic scarf out of them, but whenever I see it, I am reminded of that awful experience. Trust me, it takes a lot to annoy my easygoing partner but he bristles whenever I mention the place.

If you like to weave, this is the place. Much more limited selection for knitters.

I have been buying yarn for weaving and knitting since I first learned to weave back in the mid 80's. At that time they were strictly mail order. I had a Yarn-store-in-a-Box from Halcyon and it was wonderful. I have family in Bath so whenever I am there I now go to the store to buy a treat for myself. I was very happy to be shown a drum carder and how it works when I mentioned I was interested.
Great selection of yarn fiber and tools for many fiber arts.
