Wow, the ones who have attitude are the commenters here. From the first time I went into A Stitch in Time as a neophyte needlepointer, I have received nothing but kindness and helpful hints from ALL of the staff. As a man, I have been the recipient of lots of estrogen-filled nonsense in needlework shops- I get over it, and have no problem giving it back 'cuz I'm the paying customer. Alison (the owner), Gina, a couple of other women whose names I regrettably forget, and Larry have all happy to welcome me and give me suggestions. They even empathized with my experiences at other SGV shops, going so far as to mention as couple of places that are weird. I'm not the most regular customer, but, when I come in and if they are not busy, they greet me, and ask if they can help. I wish ASIT still carried Paternayan wool, but that company's gone through a re-org, so I can understand a retail shop's desire to carry stable product lines. Still have DMC floss though. Lots of painted canvases, some blank rolls, and loads of skeins and needles for knitting. BTW the person who commented about the classes at the front tables is correct, and one should not expect everyone sitting there to be an employee. Politeness towards the staff is a good thing, too. As is resourcefulness when hunting for yarn, canvas, and stuff...and I for one am glad ASIT can help me.

So good to know I'm not the crazy one!

The place is very nice and inviting if you a) belong to a certain social class based on your name OR b) belong to the local Junior League. The alternative it to seems as if you have lots and lots of $$$$ and a [royal] title and wear big babbles

Reminds me of high school -

I was greatly disappointed with this shop... I came in during what looked to have been a needlepoint group and I felt that I walked into some sort of underground meeting where men were not welcome. I've had my fair share of feeling out of place at these shops for being male, but I'm usually met with warm curiosity, not cold disdain. To top it off, I could sense the disdain grow when I began to peruse the sale bin for any cheap materials.

I would recommend going somewhere where your business will be much more appreciated. It's an absolute shame for anyone to run a business like this.

This was a cute store! The people were very friendly.
There was not much to choose from for yarn, but what they had was very nice. There was a lot more wrt needlepoint and fun gifts. I'll be visiting when I'm out that way again :)

I have traveled the internet looking for flutter yarn metalic eyelash yard color 135. Do you have a supplier I might contact for this item? If so please supply their email address.

Thank you so much for you help.

I just spent a lovely morning with a delightful group of women. Contrary to what you might have read I found everyone in the shop to be warm and friendly. Debbie could not have been more helpful. First she began looking through catalogues in trying to help me find what a particular canvas. Low and behold I found the perfect one from their trunk sale. She then devoted a lot of time in assisting me to find the perfect yarn selection. All of the staff i.e. Peggy, Cheryl and Gina all had input as well as some of the customers. All in all it was a charming expeience and was just what you would want to find in a needlepoint shop.

I asked you about the "big red truck" canvas. I lady named Carol Ann or Carolyn was working on it at a class in La Jolla. You sent me an e-mail with the two different
sizes available and the prices. (I can't find the e-mail
now.) I want the same size she had, and I am wondering, also, if you have an upcoming sale that would include this canvas? Thank you. Nancy

I find it odd there is such a wide variety of opinions about this store.

I hope everyone realizes how difficult it is to keep staff in Retail. Not everyone has been as friendly over the years, but the owner Alison is great. They often have classes sitting at the front table--so don't expect those people to do the meet and greet when you walk in the door.

They have a good selection of knitting supplies, considering the store focuses on needlepoint. If you are not happy, let Alison know.

I have been taking needlepoint classes and buying supplies from A Stitch In Time for over 16 years. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the selection of canvases and fibers is extensive. And, if they don't have what you are looking for, they will find it for you. A few years ago they moved to this larger store that allowed them to expand to add knitting supplies and gifts. The transition was smooth and they maintained their high level of service. If you have trouble getting what you need, ask for the owner, Alison Hodgkiss. I am lucky to have such a great store close by to quench my needlepoint cravings.

I don't know anything about knitting, but my wife always comes out of there happy.

I have gone to Stitch in Time a few times over the years. I have purchased many canvases and knitting supplies. The staff especially one in particular are extremely rude and could care less about you. The last time I was there was about 6 mo. ago and after spending around $400 and getting nothing but horrible service, I decided it was not worth it to go there just for convenience. I will never go back unless a new owner takes over and fires the entire staff!

The yarn selection isn't large, but what they do have does satisfy. I don't recall seeing much in novelty as someone previously mentioned, but what they did have in that was high quality (think Tilli Thomas) and expensive.

The yarn is relegated around the entrance and the rest of the store is dedicated to embroidery and gift trinkets.

Can't say too much on the service, seeing as I didn't need any help, but at the register, as I made my purchase, the lady was very pleasant.

A word to the wise: Unless you're in a store that has to meet sales goals, ask for help when you need it. As oppose to waiting to be asked if you need it. Don't be afraid to engage the employees first. It's not terribly hard.

All together, I had a fine experience here.

I went there and one lady who I guess worked there for a long time was very nice. I never knitted before so she picked out some yarn and large needles. She then with great patience taught me the basics of knitting. I thought that was great as I am not one to go to classes. They have a drop ins whereby you sit together with other ladies to work on your knitting, embroidery or crochet projects which I think is very cool.

I've found the staff, especially Larry, to be very friendly and helpful. The twice-yearly sales are fabulous, and I love their Trash to Treasures project too. Good place to go for a drop-in or some inspiration!

I found the staff sitting down, dis-engaged and not interested in me. I think it was a gift shop that added yarn and needlepoint supplies to keep afloat. There are not many exciting classes offered. The yarn supply is limited. On a positive note; it is nice to have a knitting supply shop on Huntington Dr.

I have been to this store twice and both times the staff were indifferent or downright rude. Their selection of knitting books is extensive, but their yarn offerings seem to be heavy on novelty yarns. I would rate this store very low on atmosphere and service, and just okay on selection.
