about Handweavers Inspiring Yarn Shop on Fri Jan 09 17:38:06 +0000 2009

Small shop, but really nice variety of yarns. Didn't get to meet the dog, but probably wouldn't mind. Found lots of inspiration there - many projects were shown next to the yarns they were made of. Will be back soon . . .

Back to Handweavers today, bought enough for the next 3 projects. Met the dog - he's a "greeter" kind of pooch, barked hello when I first walked in, and then fell back asleep.

Found some fun novelty yarns for two decorative scarf projects, and a really sweet kit-in-a-ball - a soft, nubby ball of yarn that comes with it's own pattern and 3 buttons to make a toddler's sweater for just $14!

I like this shop very much - I'll be back! :) loongirl

ps - why does everyone write anonymously?

about Clever Ewe on Sat Jan 10 17:18:32 +0000 2009

Was soooooooooooooo disappointed - drove 120 mi roundtrip today to visit this shop with a friend, and they were closed for inventory!!!! On a Saturday, 1:30pm!!!! Clever Ewe not only missed our business, but also business from the other two ladies who were right behind us. They too were seriously disappointed.

Nothing wrong with doing an inventory, but on a Saturday that they advertised they are open from 10 - 3? There was nothing on their website to indicate they'd be closed. My friend and I had three projects between us we wanted to buy for, but that didn't happen at Clever Ewe.

In just six months time, this store has really grown. They've added more lines of yarn, and a lot more nice quality yarn/crochet/cross stitch accessories - they even have needles from KnitPicks!

I like the idea of being able to drop in any day of the week and settle in for a good knit. Free - and no obligation to buy anything. Jeannie, the store owner, helped me start my first pair of toe-up socks last week. It's a very comfortable place, with a big soft sofa, and there's a spacious area in the back for the classes they offer.

If you are looking for good classes - this is one of the best in the area for learning socks, market bags, plus they offer a kids' knitting camp too.

I've been in several times. Most times I was greeted with a friendly hello when I walked in the door, a couple times I wandered around without anyone approaching me, but it was apparent that they were busy helping others.

Like the selection of yarns, very nice quality. And really enjoyed their Stash Sale a couple months ago - anyone could sell from their stash, and a percentage of the proceeds went to four charities.

Ideal Images has become a lovely yarn store, with plenty of nice quality yarn of all types. The owner has expanded the yarn line, and the implements (needles, etc) too. She even carries KnitPicks needles, which I love.

The seating area for knitters is great - everyone is welcomed to sit for as long as they want, every day the shop's open. Most days there's folks there knitting, gabbing, friendly - it's a great place to spend a few hours, and you won't be bored with the yarn selection.

First, the yarn selection is stupendous!!! It's drool-worthy, and I can spend hours just touching and feeling. I can't buy it all, must be selective, and it's so HARD to choose only what my budget allows. Thankfully, owner Kelly regularly has these fabulous sales that often are 50-60 or even 70% off! And not just a few kinds of yarn - the last sale I went to she had eight 8' tables plus 10 shelves of yarn on sale!

Second, the management and staff of YLYS is wonderful. Helpful, easy to talk with, good with yarn suggestions for your projects. Kelly is generous to charities, using her store to raise money for local charities often.

Third, I love this store, and will gladly travel 80 miles roundtrip to shop there. They are worth it.
