Easily distracted by new projects and shiny objects
I have never had much luck getting assistance that was helpful. The employees are usually too busy chatting, eating or looking busy.
I love this store. The selection is fantastic, the atmosphere is casual and kicked back and the staff want to help--but don't hassle you into making a purchase.
Very friendly and super chill and very helpful.
Decided to pop into Yarn Garden while down the street at another LYS. Three people were working and not a single person greeted me. It was a little annoying. I realize they were busy taking in inventory and knitting, but a simple hello would have been nice. It was around noon and there were only a couple other customers in the shop.
The yarn selection has been pared down considerably since the last time I was there and the patterns notions room has been cleaned up and organized. It still has a lot of stuff in it, but it is more manageable than its former incarnation. It's not as overwhelming as it used to be.
Such a great shop! They have an amazing selection of sock yarn and a great stock of other weights for just about any project imaginable. Every color of every yarn and all the amazing textures of fibers are easy to see with the bright, well-lit openness of the shop space. The staff are super nice and very helpful. Notions are plentiful and they have hard to find stuff. I'd definitely send my friends there!
Yup, they rock. Just went there for the first time yesterday. I was impressed. The employees were quick to say hello and ask me if I needed help. They might have gotten a "hands off" vibe from me so I got a quick tour so I could find things on my own (which I appreciated!). The place is quite lovely. The shelves are piled with great yarn and the back room is simply divine. They have many of the standard books and patterns and some harder to find international patterns as well (german and japanese).
The place is arranged by weight and there's a good range of yarn in each gauge from inexpensive to luxury with a healthy selection in between.
One of my favorites in all of Portland. I love their range of fibers and the laid back atmosphere. There's usually at least one customer knitting at the table or on the couch and the staff is always happy and ready to help. They have just enough to be dazzling without being overwhelming with all around super nice folks.
Customer service is unpredictable. I've had awesome service and just downright ridiculous service. I usually don't go in unless I'm hosting an out of town friend who wants to check it out. They yarns they carry are amazing. Really amazing stuff and a lovely space. I might call ahead to ask what kind of mood the staff is in and how busy it is just to be prepared.
