about Sunflower Samplings on Wed Jun 18 00:42:03 -0500 2008

Very wide selection of quality yarns. Some of the staff can be a bit "stand-off-ish" (which may be interpreted as "rude") but I never let that stop me! I just continue browsing and expressing my charming self. A bit pricey... but a great selection of some really beautiful yarns. Usually there is a box or six (!) of sale yarns to rummage through. I was in there once to pick up some yarn for a winter weight chemo cap for my cousin. Apparently, none of the credit card machines in the downtown area were working and the owner, knowing me only from a few previous visits, told me to just pay her next time I was in Crystal Lake! That kind of customer service earns loyalty!

about The Fold on Wed Jun 18 00:32:57 -0500 2008

I love The Fold. LOVE IT. THIS IS A VERY WELL STOCKED SHOP! A dizzying array of fiber and roving... a spinners paradise. The yarn selection is excellent with a wide variety of high quality yarns that is different from what you will find at nearly any other shops. The service is very folksy and helpful. A little challenging to get to (it seems) but I gladly make the trip... almost weekly! The owner, Toni, is very kind, helpful and knowledgable! From her humble beginnings with a few sheep (there is a barn full of them in the back!) she has grown organically into one of the most amazing, full-service, fiber-related shops I have ever been to. Knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning wheels, drop spindles, felting... She also happens to be the "off-line" retail representative for Blue Moon Fiber Arts "Socks That Rock" so that little slice of yarn heaven is there in abundance! Gorgeous selection of buttons. Group and private classes are available in virtually all fiber disciplines.

about Wool, Warp & Wheel on Wed Jun 18 00:21:36 -0500 2008

Beautiful little shop in a quaint town. You can learn all things fiber here... from processing the raw animal fleece to spinning, knitting, crochet and weaving. They even have their own resident Angora Bunny, Mr. Bean! Small seating "knitting circle" in the back of the store around a wood burning stove. Owners Penny & Rob are very informative and welcoming.

about Marr Haven Wool Farm on Wed Apr 15 01:41:17 -0500 2009

I love that this is definately a "sheep to shawl" kind of place. Small operation that sells the beautiful wool from their own sheep. I have purchased dyed yarn hanks as well as natural pound cones... fleece pelts... patterns... It's a lovely place. The owner is very sweet and I have never failed to get a wave of greeting from her husband from out in the field whenever I have visited.

about Colorado Fiber Arts on Wed Apr 15 01:45:00 -0500 2009

I enjoyed visiting this shop while taking a break from driving while on vacation in Colorado. Very helpful and friendly staff... yet, gives enough room to explore without feeling crowded. I really liked their selection of books and I remember being impressed with the number and quality of knitted sample items on display.

about La Lana Wools on Wed Apr 15 08:50:44 -0500 2009

Honestly, I think of LaLana Wools as more of a "gallery" than a yarn shop. Truly artistic, organic, gorgeous!! The owner is a loving gem of a woman! I had a great visit there on vacation. She has some spun whole locks that have got to be seen to be believed. Her colorways are awesome (especially given that they are all natural, plant based dyes). LaLana also carries a limited selection of felted figurines from reknowned fiber artist, Ayala Talpai... This shop is a "MUST VISIT" if you are in New Mexico!

about Fishbed Knitting Emporium Inc. on Wed Apr 15 02:12:26 -0500 2009

Wow... I have been there plenty of times and have never, ever smelled smoke. I am surprised to read that post. This is a very cute, rather small shop that is very well organized with a very good selection of high quality yarns. Very clean.

about Yarnify! on Wed Apr 15 02:23:34 -0500 2009

I, too, made the pilgrimage into Chicago when some friends were in from out-of-state... so I went early to check out Loopy. Wonderful shop! Loaded with quality yarns... the sock yarn selection is impressive... as is the LIBRARY of knitting books! I found my way to the tables in the lower level (yeah... a lower level!) and I relaxed and knitted until my friends arrived. The owner came out and chatted a bit, offered some assistance with the pesky parking meter and even let me use her phone to call the City to report the broken meter. I found the rest of the staff to be a bit indifferent... but it could just be that they were hip, young and trying to get some knitting done! Oh, yeah... they have a GUY on staff! Yeah for MALE KNITTERS!

about Nina on Wed Apr 15 02:29:25 -0500 2009

The atmosphere is sleek, minimalist and very "art gallery" in it's design and style. The yarns are artfully displayed. I had gotten a gift certificate from Nina Chicago for Christmas that was burning a hole in my pocket when I visited. I was so mesmerized by the physical display of the shop, I actually found it a little difficult to find anything I liked. I did decide... after a good four or five tours of the shop... new Addis and some yarn to make these really cool "Baby Uggs" booties they had on display! Gorgeous place.
