Knitmap is now available for Android. Now it's easier than ever to find your local yarn store!
My Ravelry.com username is also ShimmerGreen.
Truly a destination store, if you live south of Encinitas and must brave the Interstate 5 North split. Gorgeous wood flooring and fixtures house the high-end yarns and spinning supplies.
Inspiring class samples & a drool-worthy selection of notions will tempt you to blow your yarn allowance for the entire year.
Clean, neat, fragrant, and cozy shop with happy folks who always ask if I need help. Chock-full of woolly staples and the hottest luxury yarns. Good price range from wool/acrylic blends to hand-dyed silks with beaded strands.
Plenty of patterns and books, plus outrageously tempting clearance sales that keep their stock updated and fresh. Man, those sidewalk sales! You can totally score awesome wool at acrylic prices during the summer when they need to make room for the fall stock.
The Grove's yarn department stocks Brown Sheep, Blue Sky, and a continuously fresh parade of natural luxury fibers that you won't find in the big box stores.
Seasonal classes, an active Ravelry group, and an award-winning Knit Salon (crocheters welcome, too!) on 1st & 3rd Thursday nights provide a sense of community and support among beginners and yarn masters.
(Um, I do their website, so I'm biased!)
Needlepoint supplies and lovely yarn nestled in the multiple rooms of a converted beach house. Sweet and knowledgeable staff eager to help you find (or order) what you need if you don't have time to treasure hunt.
Classes and an emailed newsletter available. Good supply of books -- stocks patterns booklets I've never seen before. Lots of nooks and crannies packed with fiber treasures.
So close to the beach, it's best to go when there's not much tourist traffic, even though they have several parking spaces in front of the building.
An odd store, but I guess you'd be, too, if you were next door to Hooters! o_o Neat as a pin, all the time! Very quiet, except for clocks that chime birdsong or Musak.
For years, you had to look up yarn prices in their Rolodex, but they invested in a price gun a year or so ago, so it's easier to shop now.
Half needlepoint store, half knitting store, they stock lots of Berroco, plus crewel wools, high-end Euro yarns, and microfiber acrylic baby yarns. Good place to find European pattern booklets, although no Rowan. :-( Excellent supply of all the DMC pearl cotton colors.
They have semi-annual clearance sales in early January and August, which are good times to score high-end yarns.
Typical chain store brands such as Lion Brand, Red Heart, Caron, & Patons, some of which offer wool & cotton yarns besides the ubiquitous acrylic.
Yarns are squished in metal racks against the south wall near the fake plants, so be careful not to snag your yarn selections on a plastic branch.
Spinning rack of Leisure Arts, etc. pattern booklets and a small fixed rack of knitting/crochet books. Stock of Boye, Susan Bates, & Clover notions. Not a bad place for basic supplies if your usual LYS is closed before 9 PM.
