about Amazing Yarns on Thu Jun 17 18:04:05 -0500 2010

As well as having splendid weaving and knitting yarns, Andrea hosts a weaving study group and a crochet guild meets at the store monthly. I get new ideas every time I stop in!

about Depth of Field Yarn on Thu Jun 17 18:10:39 -0500 2010

Back in the year they'd just moved to the current location in 1971, my weaver mother brought me in hand to choose the (Peruvian alpaca) yarn for my first weaving project. I visited after years away in the fall of 2009 and found them still as delightful, well-stocked, and using the same spool rack for the by-the-inch rat-tail satin cord (only it's mounted to the ceiling now). Good tools, good yarns, and I'll echo above sentiments re the staff - one's friendly and helpful and one appears to be really not into people. Don't let it make you hesitate to explore and deeply enjoy the place.

about Ingebretsen's on Thu Jun 17 18:15:21 -0500 2010

Years away from my Mpls youth, how delightful to come back some years ago to Ingebresen's for picnic supplies and some special groceries for my folks and find that they've expanded down the block, using a whole 'nother storefront for the fibery goodness! The linen bands for embroidering on, sold by the yard (or inch) are quite a find.

about The Yarnery on Thu Jun 17 18:23:08 -0500 2010

I have loved this place for decades (Mom being a weaver & knitter too), and bring friends with me to visit when I'm in town (rarely anymore).
Sad to hear about the bathroom woes; I'd recommend a quick pitstop at the corner Caffe Latte (they grind organic wheat for their baked goodies and their chocolate goodies are amazing x decadent - you have been warned!) before heading into the lovely yarny goodness and splendid experience that is the Yarnery, any time!

about Linden Yarn & Textiles, Inc on Thu Jun 17 18:25:34 -0500 2010

The nicest stuff at nice stuff prices - can be a little spendy but you come away feeling happy about the excellent yarns she carries. A very nice place.

about Textile Center on Thu Jun 17 18:39:14 -0500 2010

- Note that a key tenant in the building, the Weavers Guild of Minnesota has a shop with yarns and tools.
The Textile Center's gift shop in the front of the building is a museum-quality showcase of local artists' work.
The combined library is AMAZING and wonderful.
