about Cat'Laine on Wed Sep 07 13:37:47 -0700 2011

The lady is very nice and gives good advices about yarn choice, and will help you kindly to find the best yarn for your project plus, yarn is very cheap which makes Cat Laine an interesting place to buy yarns.
Be careful at the opening schedules, because this shop closes very early (5pm), but you can go during lunch time if you are not too far from Opera/grands boulevards/Richelieu Druot.

about Le Comptoir on Wed Sep 07 13:52:25 -0700 2011

Le Comptoir is the tiny little shop near the subway station "Cadet". The service is generally not good (it depends on the days), every time you ask to see a yarn, you seem to annoid the lady so you're not feeling very confortable.
It's a litlle bit like been in a candy shop but no having the right to touch!!! Frustrating isn't it?
But if you know exactly what you need, you can go make a quick purchase, they've got Rowan, Habbu textiles, and other nice stuff.

about Mercerie Saint Pierre on Wed Sep 07 13:55:57 -0700 2011

Famous mercerie, but a very poor choice of yarn of good quality. Most of yarns are acrylic (Pingouin,), but you can find some cheval blanc and plassard yarns. You have a poor choice of French magazines (Cheval Blanc). But a good choice for buttons, needles, zips and other accessories!
Be careful because this shop closes early (6pm)

about Mercerie Moline on Wed Sep 07 13:58:04 -0700 2011

Better location than Mercerie Saint Pierre , a good choice of yarn (debbie bliss, lana lang, fonty) and of knitting books.

about Chatmaille on Wed Sep 07 14:07:08 -0700 2011

I just can't believe Agneta's comment!!! the lady was kind? Oh my god, what happened? I know this place since age because one of my best friend is actually living in the building up the shop, and the lady is one of his neighbours, and even he agree saying that She is the most bad shop owner that we've ever know!! The lady is really not kind (if you don't know really what your looking for....your dead believe me!), but the shop is specialised in Katia yarns and magazines.

about La Droguerie on Wed Sep 07 14:16:11 -0700 2011

The atsmosphere in La Droguerie is amazing, it's like a candies shop, your eyes are starting to sparkle by the time you discover the shop.
But I hate the way they are organised. I went at La droguerie In Paris and also in Bordeaux and every time it's the same thing: you have to wait for 30 or 40 minutes before getting an assistant to ask for what you want.
That's why people bought kits, to avoid queue.
They have great patterns, in French and english, but not very well written (not very clear sometimes). You don't have to buy the books, you can also ask them one specific pattern.

In La droguerie, you won't find brands, they only sell La Droguerie yarns, which are lovely but very expensive.

about Lil Weasel on Wed Sep 07 14:20:37 -0700 2011

One of my favorite Yarn shop in Paris!
The owner is adorable and always very helpful with a big smile! You can find a lot of brands: Cascade, Malabrigo, Fonty, Debbie Bliss....and you can take classes (Knitting, crocheting and sewing) if you want.
Very nice place to visit and to shop in the middle of Paris!

about Le Bon Marché on Wed Sep 07 14:33:58 -0700 2011

Le Bon Marché in PAris is a very nice place (not only for yarn) but as the Galleries Lafayette, Le Printemps....this is not the best place to make good deals (which means that everything is a little bit overpriced)
What can you find over there:
- a lot of different brands: from Phildar, to Rowan, Noro, Auraucania, Debbie bliss, Amy blatt, Bouton d'or
- a lot of buttons and other accessories
- a La Droguerie corner when you can find patterns and accessories (buttons....) but not yarn
- needles and co...
- yarn magazine (Rowan, Bouton d'or, Phildar et...) and knitting books of designers
Salepeople are ok (depends if they are busy or not).

about La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe on Wed Sep 07 14:54:09 -0700 2011

Very nice place I've visited during my winter trip in New York, lovely owners, it's a tiny but confortable place and they do knitting classes some evenings and you can eat overthere!
You can buy classic yarn like Rowan, debbie bliss, cascade, Lambspride, and co...at normal prices.
they got also a nice selection of knitting books
