about Oxford Yarn Store on Sat Aug 24 17:18:19 -0500 2013

I was visiting Oxford for a few weeks so I thought I'd pop into the store to see what they had. Not only do they have a great variety of yarns, but they were really welcoming and friendly. The shop is warm and cozy and the owner loves her craft. I went back for the knitting club and had a fabulous time--tea, birthday cake and all kinds of fun! This is definitely worth a visit, especially for out--of-towners because you will feel right at home.

There is so much creative energy in this shop. The staff were friendly and laid-back--gave me some patterns and books to look through but then gave me the room to browse without any pressure. If you're at all into vintage knitting, definitely stop here: millions of reused buttons, lots of old patterns and just inspiration in general. It's also great that everything there is local and eco-friendly.

Ravelry confirms, the shop is no more :(

There is a good selection of Rowan, Debbie Bliss, Noro and other good quality, well-known yarns. Great place for browsing and dreaming up your next project. Don't miss the discount aisle in the front of the yarn section--I was able to pick up some Rowan yarn at only a couple pounds a ball.

If you're looking for a bargain, this shop may not be for you. But if you're looking for one of a kind, hand-dyed, beautiful yarn for that special project, then definitely stop by. They carry unique materials of excellent quality and I was very happy with what I took home. The shop itself is very lovely--lots of space to look around, big windows with lots of natural light (so you can really see the hue of the yarn), and comfy chairs to sit in. I also love the canvas tote bag they gave me with my purchase.
