It all depends on who's working. I've had wonderful service on a very quiet day and they've talked me through knitting my first pair of socks. Other times I've been floored by the rudeness. But the selection is beautiful and the samples are amazing. A great place to go if you want to see how a project will look.

Overwhelming selection -- don't go in without a project or product in mind.
Wonderful staff -- so friendly and eager to help you feel at home.

The yarn selection still hasn't improved but the fabrics and the support are well worth a visit. When I was there they were hosting a "start sewing" class, so it's a great place for those who haven't done anything crafty since their Girl Scout days.

Recently moved to the more noticeable part of downtown Galena, this shop is braced on all sides by other fiber stores including quilting, needlepoint, embroidery and lace.
All of the women who work in these shops are exceptionally friendly and helpful -- they'll even point you to the best spots for lunch.
Great place for a Girls' Weekend.

Pretty, pretty, pretty.
Tons of Danish designers, including the owner herself. The colours are beautiful and the cashmere divine.
There's a reason why the queen shops here.

Another shop where it's all about who's working and what you're looking for. I had a great time here with a friend, picking out a care package of wool for her sister in the United States. The back room is a little treasure trove -- but again it's about going in and knowing what you're looking for. Not the type of place to try a first or early project.

Made on Mon Aug 25 21:00:02 -0700 2008 about Clegs

A great place for travelers due to its close proximity to Flinders Street Station and hotels in the CBD.
I like it for its modest but selective collection of New Zealand yarns -- good for gifts for other knitters.
And on Fridays there are reps from Patons available for tips on knitting and crochet.
Word of warning: be sure you go during the Melbourne winter. Once September arrives, it's racing carnival season and the yarns are moved into a tiny area to make room for millinery accessories.

Great collection of Jo Sharp yarns and books and then a whole lot of "nana" yarns.
