Noe Knit really has the corner of the market in San Francisco on the community aspect of knitting. The owner and staff are all so friendly and helpful, and they have frequent knitting-related activities in addition to numerous knitting classes. They have a decent selection of yarns, especially if you're looking for yarn for a felting project or a sweater. The sock yarn selection has been lacking, but I received an email this past week stating they have added to their sock yarn collection. I haven't been in yet to check it out.

Arguably the best yarn store in San Francisco. They have an enormous selection of yarn, books, and needles. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff.

I have only been here once, about a year ago, so I don't know if their yarn selection has changed any. When I was here, they mostly had super-bulky yarns. The person working there considered worsted-weight to be a very fine (small) gauge. They didn't have any yarns that were DK or finer.

This is a very unique yarn store. They manufacture all of their own yarns in European upholstery mills. You will not find a store exactly like this one anywhere else--if you're visiting San Francisco, I definitely recommend stopping here for a one-of-a-kind experience.

This is THE yarn store to go to if you want to dye your own yarn. They stock a great selection of dyes and some blank yarns from Henry's Attic. They also have a great selection of needles and commercially manufactured yarns.
