I was surprised at how much they had in terms of yarn selection considering that this is mostly a fabric store. They have better quality than Joann's but seems less fancy than some other specialty yarn shops.

The store is really great. The staff is welcoming and even have a blog with contests: http://hilltopyarn.blogspot.com/ They really go out of their way to create a sense of community.

I really like Weaving Works because the location is convenient to me, however when I go in, the staff don't seem to want to come out of their little corner. They aren't unfriendly but don't seem to go out of their way to be helpful.
Otherwise, they have a great selection and I always find what I need.

I last went to the Yarn Gallery for a winter sale. They celebrated by having wine and cheese for the customers and were very friendly.
I like that they have a lot of Patons yarns that I can't find in other stores. As the previous poster said, there were a lot of basics, which are nicer than the big box stores but less expensive than high end stores.

This store has a selection I expected and more, notably, huge walls of Noro, Cascade, and Lamb's Pride. There isn't a crazy amount of sock yarn, but I noticed a neat indie dyed sock yarn available. The staff is friendly without being intrusive.

I love this shop since I'm a fan of both yarn and tea, but it's far enough from me that I don't make it out there much.

This shop has a very nice atmosphere and is pet-friendly, like much of Friday Harbor. I especially enjoyed looking at two yarns whose source of fleece were local.

This store is huge! I visited last October and was overwhelmed by the selection.

This is a charming little yarn shop! The selection is not huge, you can find very yarns that are local and rare. Debbie and Maxine shear the sheep that live on Lopez Island, spin the wool, and then dye it! I met Debbie and she is pictured in front of the shop.

My most frequented LYS is one that is closest to me. I didn't have a car for a couple of years, so distance was important. The other yarn stores in the area were pretty annoying to get to even by bus. I value the helpfulness of the staff and like to frequent the ones that are welcoming now that distance is less of an issue for me.

It seems that I've been mistaken: Debbie and Maxine don't actually shear the sheep themselves, but help with shearing. They do use the fleece from the sheep, which makes a beautiful and unique yarn.
