Good range of needles and needle sizes, and the store is airy so there's plenty of room to view the stash. Has a funky, Berkeley feel to it. Owner Christina Stork created the name as a spoonerism for "practical art." She's also the author of "Viva Poncho," and her cabled poncho Frida is available on MagKnits.

Definitely has upscale yarns -- I found a few skeins of beaded Tilli Thomas shortly after they opened. But you can also find that workhorse, Cascade 220. Parking is challenging at times as it's on Solano Avenue and also across from Zachery's Pizza.

Great shop! The owner and assistants are very friendly and very helpful. The store stocks lots of sock yarns, and the stock overall fits every budget. The only downside is that the aisles are too small; if you're in a wheelchair, you'll have difficulty negotiating the shop.

Re-opened with a new owner, and smaller space than the original. The stock is still organized by color (carrying on the tradition of the two previous owners). What I found to be different from the original store is that THIS incarnation is very friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a return visit (or three).

The store cat's name is Bastet, the Egyptian cat goddess. Store carries a huge range of Crystal Palace Yarns and will special order, too. Free wi-fi. Clerks are super-helpful; two women who came in as I was browsing asked for help learning how to knit in the round so they could make baby hats. Right after looking up a pattern for me on Ravelry, the clerk popped over and gave them an intro to using circs.

Gail, the owner, wants people to feel welcome to come in and knit, and she has a nice big table for that reason. Lots of sock yarn and Plymouth. It's not the to-go place for trendy yarn, but I think of it more like good, solid comfort food. Gail also has a lot of cute doll knitting patterns.
