The Walmart of crafting stores. I hope I won't have to go back there.

I think it's the knowledge and friendliness of the staff, good lighting and selection of yarn. Classes are good, and for me, so is stuff for other crafts (I also crewel embroider, cross stitch, and needlepoint).

I'd like the list to pop up in order of most comments/highest ratings, too. That way you'd know where to go/where to avoid when looking for yarn shops.

This store is great! They also have a large selection of beautiful needlepoint canvases and cross stitch patterns as well. (And I think they also sell stuff for crewel embroidery.)

Great selection of knitting books, needles, notions, and yarns. Also a large array of Paternayan crewel wools in various colors and needlework materials, including cute unworked canvases. (I particularly loved the belt pattern with dinosaurs on it, for a child.) Say "hi" to Sophie, the resident "cranky Siamese." I am feeling really inspired by some of the mohair, silk, and baby yarns in particular.

Yarn is arranged by type, and then by color. There is a lot of Plymouth Encore (in a good variety of colors) and baby wools, and a nice selection of Paton and Berocco "fancy" yarns. Nice table and chairs at which to sit and knit (my knitting class meets there). Also some cross stitch, needlepoint, and crochet materials.

Almost TOO many choices of yarn - they have so much yarn you almost can't see it all.
