Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Everyone welcome to sit and stitch! There is a fun project available for knitters of all levels.

Agree with previous poster. Super friendly and very helpful. Offered use of internet when we couldn't recall the yardage needed for a project. Offered to special order yarn in a specific colorway she didn't have enough of in stock. Good prices. Small shop, but will definitely go back. I think its the friendliest shop in town.

wow....the staff always gives out a "hello" and asks if they can help you find anything or if you're just looking. The parking lot is in the back so it is especially convenient to enter thru this door, but there is a lovely courtyard front entrance as well. I agree there is more needlepoint than yarn, but they are very helpful in matching the customer up with a knitting project, and will refer you to other venues if they don't have what you are looking for.

Agree this is the most pleasant shop to be in. They have the best prices too. Not strictly a yarn store, but ordered what I needed and didn't charge extra. Wish I could've spent more time there but will be back for sure.

I'm so surprised that someone would not have been welcomed. I find the absolute opposite to be true. Yes there is a LOT of needlework supplies, I believe for many years that was its main focus. That said, if you haven't been recently you should definitely go back. Jennifer has been working diligently at adding to her yarn offering and has already brought in many new options. Plus she orders LOTS of different coloways and I know she's willing to special order things for people. And as a previous poster said, parking is in the back, so its convenient to come in that door..but you can always walk around to the courtyard entrance.

I too am surprised since I am the owner and I ALWAYS at least say "hello" !

I would be very surprised if Jennifer and her staff did not welcome them when they came in the store. As a store owner, myself, I get to know who else is out there and how they treat their customers, Jennifer is great at greeting customers and trying to help them with selection of yarns, patterns, etc. In my opinion, Village Stitches does a very good job on customer service and working with customers to help make their yarn projects turn out just the way they want.

Did a mini shop hop of the 3 (?) stores in this town while visiting and definately liked this one the best. The location was head and shoulders above the rest, and the staff was the nicest here too. Even though the store was small, it was arranged very nicely and I was amazed to find so many great yarns in such a small space. They had a very good sale section, and the helpers that I talked to gave out great free patterns and ideas. Very, very pleasant place. Since I usually am short on time when visiting, I will probably return to this shop only next time I am in town.

I was born and lived my early childhood in Bloomington-Normal, so I was excited to learn there were several shops to choose from on my visit. This shop was not so bad. They had a lot of other crafts there. The lady who waiting on me was fairly knowledgable. All-in-all ok.

Here at Village Stitches, we actually have the least of our stock tied up in our cross stitch department. The store is divided into two equal sections with needlepoint and some cross stitch on one half, and a newly expanded yarn department on the other half. In fact, we have been getting so much yarn in the last several weeks, that we do not have room for it on our shelves. Needle is correct in his/her comment about having lots of needlework as we have the largest selection of canvases in the downstate area. However, there is yarn aplenty from Mission Falls, Cascade, Berroco, Dream in Color, Kraemer, Universal, Knit One Crochet Too, and Reynolds to name a few brands off the top of my head. In fact, as I look over my shoulder, I can see every color of Universal's Deluxe Worsted Wool; 26 colors of Lopi Lite, the ENTIRE color palette of Mission Falls (both wool AND cotton); 46 colors of Comfort worsted, and 30 colors of Cascade 220 with a visit from the Cascade Rep scheduled for tomorrow! And that's just 3 of our shelving units-worth. And I'm not sure what it takes to qualify as "real knitter". Three of the five staff members here at Village Stitches are very "real" knitters, and the other two will gladly offer the benefit of their 10 years experience here at the shop, or, should they not be able to answer a question, happily contact someone who can provide further insight.

The above post (Oct 01 2009) was in response to a comment that has been deleted. The comment, left by "needle" on Oct 01, made reference to our shop as primarily cross stitch; stated that there were no "real knitters", and mentioned that there was a lack of yarn. As always, we welcome all needleworkers be they knitters, crocheters, needlepointers, cross stitchers, or any other fiber enthusiasts, to visit Village Stitches in person and journal their experiences here on knitmap. Your opinions are valuable. We appreciate your business and we hope you will love our shop as much as we do.

I really liked this shop! They had lots of beautiful yarn, tons of needles, books of patterns and the two girls there were really sweet and helpful. The owner looked on Ravelry for some info for me, and, demonstrated two techniques for me so that I could knit a scarf pattern that we found. This is a beautiful location and really a delightful place to spend your time, and there are many beautiful yarns and accessories to buy. There is also a very nice stitchery section. I am a cross stitcher and found the Santa pattern I had been looking for too!
