We just moved to the area and I have meet two of the workers and the owner. All are extremely nice. They are very helpful if you need help finding anything or have a question. Knit night is now on Tuesdays instead of Thursday.

Every year my Dad has totravel to Fort McClellan. My Mom, sister, and I are big crafters. I had never knitted before, but I knew that I would like to learn how to. We went out to eat one night, and I noticed a building on the square that said the "Yarn Shop". Little did I know, that the next day I would stop in the shop and fall in love with a new art. All because of Pat and some friendly customers, I became aware that I could take part in this hobby. Ms. Pat suggested that I buy some cotton yarn, some needles that are still my favorite, and a book. She sat down with me between customers and taught me the knit stitch. She informed me, " You need to work on this on your way home tonight." I was thinking, "Great, I've learned this one stitch and you want me to make a dishcloth?" Since then, I have taken a knitting class in my home state where I made my very own hat, along with watching many "how-to" videos on the net. Thanks to "Taming of the Ewe", I can take this craft along with me anywhere! P.S. As long as my Dad has to go down to AL, I will make a point to stop by and see Ms. Pat and all of the fabulous yarns that she sells.
I LOVE "Taming of the Ewe"!

I stopped in this yarn shop while passing through Jacksonville on a business trip. The woman working at the store was incredibly friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I was apprehensive about learning to knit- my grandmother tried to teach me when I was younger, but threw her hands up in exasperation and walked away. In later years, a close friend tried to teach me, and even though I did learn the basics, I didn't practice or take the time to memorize the stitch. So as a result I lost what little knowledge I had of this art.
The woman that taught me (this was on a Thursday) was very patient, helping me to remember what my friend had taught me. She helped me through the stitches and got me well on my way to finally enjoying this art!! I am sooo excited with this, now when I travel- my yarn and needles travel with me!
They also have a sign advertising free lessons for tatting. I remember another one of my family members doing this when I was really younng... Who knows maybe on my next trip through Jacksonville I will stop and learn- otherwise I know I will be in need of some yarn and can find plenty of inspiration when I walk through the doors!
I recommend this shop to anyone who has ever wanted to knit, crochet or even tat. The staff (or atleast the girl I met) is wonderful, patient and very encouraging. I promise you that you will walk away with a new found hobby that you will enjoy for a very long time!
PS I love the name "Taming of the Ewe"... I think someone likes Shakespeare and playing with words!! LOL

Hands down the world's greatest yarn shop! Pat and Detta are fantastic and always willing(and patient) to help you over the simplest problem. We travel almost 60 miles-1 way-and try not to miss either a Saturday or a knit night. The friends we have made over there are truly now a big part of our family. Unlike some shops I've visited, they are crochet-friendly and since I both knit and crochet, it's important. I would and have recommended this shop to everyone I meet and if I forget, hubby does it for me!
