I've only visited this shop during their Grand Opening a couple of weeks ago, but it definitely warrants another look.

I visited twice in January. They have a good selection and the owners were very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be going back to restock the stash. They didn't have their cafe open yet but it should be soon.

Wonderful cozy atmosphere. All the help you could ask for without a feeling of pressure at all. Delicious coffee and very tempting yarns, books and supplies. A place I plan on frequenting regularly for sure.

Finally a 'close at hand' yarn store that carries Addis! Nice people too!

Lovely place to knit and browse without feeling cramped. Fair selection, sweet treats, comfy chairs, friendly folks. Accessible by buses from Pape or Donlands Stn. or streetcar from Queen Stn. Not so many interesting TO attractions nearby; more a place to sit and relax or use as your LYS.

I adore the Purl. Jen and Miko (the owners) are incredibly friendly, the Tuesday night Stitch & Bitch is an absolute blast, and their selection of yarn is reasonable for a smaller shop. They've got lots of sock yarn, a reasonable selection of laceweights, and offer amazing classes and workshops.

This is a wonderful place to sit and knit.
They are extremely welcoming, and always willing to help.
I've always been able to find something I love whenever I go in.
Don't forget to get some coffee and a treat while you're there, as the cafe is reasonably priced and delicious!

I had found a coveted bamboo sock yarn there last December, but presently they don't carry any.
It is pretty close (10 min by bike?) to my office, so I sometimes zip over there for a needle emergency etc.

Enough already!! Yes it is the best yarns shop since the invention of sliced bread. There ARE other LYS in Toronto that are just as friendly, offer great yarn, have great 'sit and stitch' nights. I now refuse to go there, because they are overly pushy, and they patrons are overly pushy.

I disagree with anonymous above that the owners or the patrons are overly pushy at this store. That is totally not the case.

Maybe the word I should have used was 'attention seeking'

I agree with someone's comment above - nice shop but owners are a bit pushy and there is an unwarranted "we're cooler than your average knitter" vibe. Lose the attitude.

Why is it that whenever someone says something rude or mean on these boards they always do it anonymously?
Neither the owners or the patrons of this shop have any attitude to lose.

Hellos,
Awhile back I inquired whether you ever had ends of yarn that you donate to charity. I was told to email you and give you my name. I'm a volunteer teaching knitting twice a week to new immigrant women in Regent Park (Yonge Street Mission) and St Jamestown. These women are very keen and I'm finding it hard to keep enough yarn for them. I hate to discourage them by having to tell them they must buy their yarn but I'm running out of donations from my friends.

Just visited this store for the first time last week. I was very impressed with now large and spacious the store is - with a lovely area to look through books or knit. Very good selection of pattern books and wonderful yarns. I was a bit frustrated that much of what I was interested in was not priced, and I stood for about 7 mins at the counter to ask for a price, but wasn't helped by the staff (who seemed really friendly to every else, they just didn't acknowledge me at all). I eventually gave up and walked out to make my purchase elsewhere.

Lovely store, can get really hectic and busy, but I love it there!

I live a block away, but I refuse to go back there. I'd rather go across town for a needle than go in there. I found the other patrons rather condescending and attention-needy. I wasn't impressed by discussions of how much money they spend on wool, how many miles of yarn they own, etc. I recycle yarn from thrift store sweaters, and was definitely not welcome there. I've gone twice. Once was disturbed by the excess consumerist bragging, and once I seem to annoy the sales person. I was just getting estimates for a custom piece, and needed prices and yardage/skein. When it became clear that I wasn't buying anything that day, I was left so she could talk to everyone else. Not nice. I go to Naked Sheep, Knit Cafe or Lettuce, much more welcoming and ehlpful.

Are discounts only offered to frequent customers only?
While attending a function which was not hosted by the store itself, we were told that there would be discount on the yarns after the event was over. It seems the store owner had to be reminded to give me the discount, where as the frequent customer in front of me was told she was getting a discount.
This is not great customer service in my eyes. I had heard people ranting and raving about how wonderful this store is, and how this outlets customers service is soooo great.
I guess you have to belong to the 'IN' crowd be welcomed. This experience makes me not to want to go back.
They do have a great selection yarns, but you can find then in other outlets in the city with friendlier service.
