The owner of this store, Cheri, is incredibly nice as well as knowledgeable about her products. The store is comfortable and the selection is quite good.

A few years ago I lived on Hawthorne and I was interested in learning how to knit, so I went to a yarn store that was very close to my house, walked in and asked the ladies who were sitting there knitting if they taught any classes and that I was interested in learning how to knit. They gave me a very discriminating look and answered yes in a tone that asked me to politely leave. I did. That knit shop is on Hawthorne very close to 17th St. I left and never went back. A few years later I stumbled across The Naked Sheep Knit Shop after breakfast at Beaterville (YUM!), went in and asked if they taught knitting. I was a little nervous, due to my past experience, but I was greeted warmly and given information on ALL the classes they offered. On my way out the door there were two ladies on the front sofa knitting and laughing, they engaged me in conversation, told me that I would love it there and invited me to come to knit night. They eluded to how much fun it was and that it got a little knotty at times. Just my type of crowd. I took Learn to Knit from Cheri. She made is so easy and fun. You have gotta love this women. She is a person that makes you want to be a better person. Kind, friendly and ALWAYS willing to help when you need it and her husband "Vice President Of Everything" Brad is just as great. This was a little over two years ago and I am still going to knit night almost every Thursday. I did a yarn crawl about a year ago and also learned that The Naked Sheep has very competitive pricing on the yarns they carry. That coupled with the warm and inviting atmosphere, the great customer service and the love of knitting keeps me loyal. I love this place and you will too.
It is bike friendly, gay friendly, straight friendly, age friendly, guy friendly, dog friendly, all kinds of friendly. I have made friends for life here."

Found this charming shop on a recent Portland area 'yarn crawl' with Beemergirl. Loved the attention to detail! Everything from selection and customer service to store display/graphics and a great classroom in the back, appealed to my every knitting sensibility!

Truly welcoming place in North Portland. The Knit Night is a tight squeeze, but the regulars really know how to have a good time. This was the first LYS I ever discovered, and though I've moved out to the burbs, The Naked Sheep and Cheri and Brad are still special to me.

Visited them recently on the 2011 PDX Knit Crawl! My sister and I visited all twenty stores in two days! They are such a fun shop. Even though they were the last store on our list, we had a great time here. I've since visited again, and though I didn't get the "Perfect" yarn for the project I was working on, I got the "Perfect" service!
This shop has yarns that I haven't seen elsewhere, and the best knitting swag around! Their cute logo is so charming, and I love all the fiddly bits.
I give them my "Most likely to Knit a Sweater at" award. The yarns they had really seem to suit larger projects well. I know you can knit a sweater anywhere, but I would chose them, knowing I could get enough for my project and get something that's more down to earth and likely to be worn!

This is my 2nd living room where I love to knit. The staff and patrons can be very welcoming and helpful. The shop seems very welcoming to beginners and experienced knitters alike. I've been coming to the shop almost since it opened and there's a really nice community of people here that make me proud to call the Naked Sheep my homebase knitting central! Cheri always has a great selection of Knit Walk bags. And she's always willing and able to place orders for yarns or colors I need, and I usually get them fairly quickly after ordering.

I love The Naked Sheep! I taught myself to knit about 4 years ago and am just starting to branch out from scarves. I have gone in with questions about tools, how to knit non-scarf items, all sorts of things, and everyone there is always welcoming and helpful. One of the ladies who works there even wrote out a basic hat pattern for me to practice with (off the top of her head!) and helped me pick a good yarn for it. I never feel like the dumb beginner when I'm there--they always make me feel like I belong there, too.

This is my favorite store on the planet. Wonderful people, good selection, great prices...only wish they were open on Mondays too. I always get these great ideas on Sunday evening, but forget them by Tuesday.
Check this place out if you are looking for support, comraderie (sp?) and great service.
