The staff are nice, when I first started knitting I could bring something in and ask a dumb question and the clerk would be nice and help me.
They also have an okay sock yarn section. LL, Opal, Trekking, some Panda wool, schaefer Anne, and others. They had Dream in Color but were almost out last time I was there. I think they try to bring in something different to try.

This is my LYS, and I do appreciate the effort they make to have something for everyone. I agree that the staff are very nice, and have always welcomed me and my small children. They have a basket of toys and books for toddlers, and usually something new in the sock yarn shelves. I've gotten discontinued Opal sock yarns there for half price, which is lovely.

The staff here is very nice and they always remind you that they are there for drop in help. If needed they will help you get all the tools needed for you project and will make sure you walk out of the store confident to get your project done! And they do have some wonderful sale price yarns...which is always fun!
Update: Okay, I went back there recently and actually sat and knit for awhile. What a wonderful bunch of people in that store! They are so helpful, kind and fun. Pretty much what one would expect and want from a LYS!

For me as a foreigner - I think this is the "typical american yarn store". Extremly friendly staff (but most americans are - if not stressed), helpful and interested. Suggested (which I found extra nice) other shops as well. Good browse and selection of yarn, and also some great sale yarn. I got inspired here, and bought Noro cotton yarn on sale, and some sock-yarn, and knitted like a maniac. I would definitely go here regularly, visiting the place. Starbucks next too it and easy parking! Calm, no stress and helpful.
