I is always a pleasure to work with Elizabeth. I've purchased a great deal of yarn from her when I've had special projects.

Yes, she has a no return policy, but she will also stash extra yarn for your project so you buy what you think you need and if you don't quite have enough, she'll pull some out. Or, in one case, look all over the country for a skein with the same lot number of a color that had been discontinued. She found 3! I purchased all 3 finished the project and had some left over to put towards a smaller project that needed less than 1 skein.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and I've never had problems with my kids in the shop. I have found the shop is family friendly, but kids should learn to respect things that aren't theirs, ask before touching, and have a semblance of manners. My youngest has been going in there since he was 7, when we moved into the area, and he is 9 now. We've never had a problem. He listened and was careful with the yarn using clean hands. I've been other places that let the kids play with the yarn and get it all messy and dirty. I usually leave that yarn alone, as I don't want to make a project with yarn that is all knotted up or dirty. TJOK has some specialty yarns that are not easy to find, and not easily washed.

No matter where I go for my yarn or tools, if it is for a particular project, I check ahead of time as to what I will need. If you don't have a copy of your pattern, or a list of what you will need, then you are just guessing as to what you will need.

Take your time and choose wisely, no matter where you go or what you get. The recipient of the project will be thankful for it, your pocketbook will be thankful for it, and you will be happy to be thrifty.

You gladly accepted monies from the purchase of yarn for a movement only to turn around and immediately attack those who chose to patronize your store. You have the right to your own opinion but you are not free of consequences for your words. I am an avid knitter, I own my own knitting shop on Etsy and I will no longer patronize your store. I'll, also, be sure that everyone I know finds another store to patronize. Your bigotry is not welcomed here.

Posting to clarify previous comments. On 1/24/17 the owner of this store created this post on her FB page.

"With the recent women's march on Washington, I ask that you if you want yarn for any project for the women's movement that you please shop for yarn elsewhere. The vulgarity, vile and evilness of this movement is absolutely despicable. That kind of behavior is unacceptable and is not welcomed at The Joy of Knitting. I will never need that kind of business to remain open. Two wrongs will never ever make it right.

As the owner of this business and a Christian, I have a duty to my customers and my community to promote values of mutual respect, love, compassion, understanding, and integrity. The women's movement is counterproductive to unity of family, friends, community, and nation.

I do pray for these women. May the God work out His love in their hearts and continue to heal and unite Americans.

Elizabeth"

As of now the post has 2.5k comments and 2.6k shares. I fully expect that the post to be deleted by the owner in the near future. I would post a screenshot were it enabled. There's screenshots all over the internet if you wish to verify.

Beware...Elizabeth, the owner, bans children from the store. Not very family friendly. I guess she thinks only old ladies knit? Customer service deserves ZERO STARS if you would allow it. She is telling customers to shop elsewhere because she refuses to sell yarn for a very popular viral knitting project. I guess she wants to screen everyone's knitting project to make sure she approves. I'll take your advice then and find a friendlier, kinder, and more helpful yarn store to spend my $100 at for this and future sales as I support my frequent knitting habit.
