Absolutely wonderful store, with extremely knowledgeable and informed owners. Their huge inventory includes some yarns not carried elsewhere. The knitting area is cozy, comfortable, well lit, and I enjoyed meeting interesting people there. I drove 200 miles to this store, and its definitely a repeater for me!!!

I made a trip to Houston in April of 2008. The only yarn shop I visited was The Hen House and I was impressed. The store is large and well organized. There was a class about to start and one of the employees was very helpful with the new knitters. He showed them the best type of starting needles and yarns, explained the differences and even helped them find a yarn that would make the scarf with just one skein. The clearance section was large, but not in an easily spotted location. There is a clearance section in the back of the store which had books, some yarn, candles and maybe some other odds and ends. Then, when I got to the cash register I realized that all of the bins around the counter were clearance as well. This is where I hit the yarn jackpot.
There is also a large selection of fabric and quilting items.
I will definitely make it back to this store the next time I am in Houston.

I visited The Hen House in June 2007. The have a HUGH yarn, needle and pattern section. The owner was extremely helpful and showed and helped me with a knitting problem I was having. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often.

It took me awhile to go in and check it out... I didn't want to "cheat" on my LYS. However... once I stepped inside, I was smitten. HH has an amazing variety of yarns at a variety of costs. Steph seems to have her finger on the pulse of the knitting world and manages to stay one step ahead of the market. I have spent tons of time and money in this store, but still manage to find something new each time I go in "just to look". This should be the first stop for anyone visiting the greater Houston area. You will not be disappointed!
