Notes
The Tasmanian Woollen Company has been operating for nine years and sells designer knitwear made from natural fibres. It exhibits the work of many Tasmanian knitters, and conducts classes and competitions to promote knitting as a traditional and innovative artform. The shop specialises in Jo Sharp yarn. Jo is one of Australia’s leading young designers, producing pattern books and yarn in fifty colours. Fine wool is another speciality and superfine yarns (18 micron) are stocked, including world-class pure wool garments from Merino Gold, Toorallie and Hedrena. Designer hand-knits include Jo Sharp designs, Arans, based on traditional Celtic patterns, whimsical scarves, and shawls in glowing colours and every imaginable garment made from wool.

Pricey, but incredibly nice yarns and friendly staff. The store sells pre-made garments in addition to yarns, needles, hooks, and patterns, and the samples are far more innovative than I've seen in most knit-shops around southern Australia. The storefront is tiny with no space to hang out and knit, but plenty of cafes nearby and ocean views make the street a great place to set up a knitting group.

A wonderful store - wish I had discovered it sooner so I could have spent a couple of hours perusing the books and yarns. Made one quick purchase and can't wait to get the pattern book I ordered. Wish the books were on an online order system.
Possibly the best knitting shop I have visited - many others have good yarns - but the quality of work on exhibition and for sale was very special. Lovely to see such quality and originality.
