I also had bad experence with Fran. before she moved to her bigger store I special ordered yarn which never came in. She kept promising it would be here 'next week" I gave up after a year of her empty promises. plus she had a basket of yarn with goodwill price tags on it $1.50 that she was selling for $5.00. I would drive to Scaramento befor I spend a penny at her place.

Have been taking knitting lessons from Florence and found her to be a lovely. knowledgeable woman worth her weight in gold. Easy to understand and explain all types of problems we run into in learning the art of knitting. Unfortunately due to the owner of the store (Fran) my wonderful two years of lessons have come to an end due to misreprerentation of class sheducles and prices and interferring in things she need not. Now after getting everyone signed up and paid she changes,, adding rules as if we were children. goes back on her word, even when it is printed. She is unsocialble, rude. and defends her behavior with "that is just good business". well good luck with your business Fran if that is the way you intend to continue running your business. you know as well as all the students there. Florences brought you a "a chest of gold, wonderful women customers - her students " when she moved to your place. Hope you don't contiue to treat them as you have the last couple of us who have left your establishment. it is all your doing. Adios I will miss only them.

I went looking for this store over a year ago. I lived in a town north of Fresno at the time. Somehow I got an old address for Swatches and was wandering around a gardening place miles away looking for it. I managed to get the current number to the story by dialing 411. Whoever answered was very nice and gave me directions. She even offered to keep the store open for me because it was almost closing time and would take me several minutes to get over to that side of town. I couldn't believe it. I'd never had anyone do that for me before.

Once I got to the store the lady there helped me find the pattern I was looking for and suggested some yarn but didn't hover. It was a nice experience and I'll most likely be buying from Swatches again.

Dear Anonymous.......Are you kidding me?????? Are you sure you were at Swatches???? The behavior you describe is totally unbelievable and uncharacteristic of anyone at Swatches!!! The minute you walk in the door knitters are sitting at the knitting corner and they always smile, say hi....very friendly place and if Fran is not with another customer, she's right there greeting you also. They are very flexible, if you just want to just look...they leave you alone until you need/want help.

If Fran or her employees knew it would take 5, 10, 20, hours to wind your yarn they would have offered to wind it and call you when it was ready!!! It would be rather selfish of you to expect her to take that much time away from her other customers to wind your yarn 'johnny on the spot'....did you offer to wind your own? There is a swifter and ball winder available to wind your own.....??

I'm sorry for you as I find Swatches' to be friendly, very helpful, eager to please and prices are in line with other fine knitting shops......you won't find all this at the retail stores. Happy knitting!

Visited a couple months ago, and the owner flat-out refused to wind the yarn I was buying from her. She laughed when I asked. She claimed it would take her 5 hours to wind just one of the skeins I was buying.

As others have noted, the shop's prices have always been a little on the high side, which I don't mind if there's good selection and service. However, no customer should be treated like this. I should have left without buying anything at all. Needless to say, I'll never go back.

This is the only place in all of Fresno, I know I can go and find the very best yarn for my projects. Its never about the quantity, its about the quality with Fran. And everything in the store and about Fran is top notch. I have encourage all those new to knitting to check this place out.

And the classes are wonderful, as well. The classes are small and there is a lot of attention pay to individual knitters, so you get it right the first time. Everything about the store, the classes, the store owner, and mostly importantly, the yarn is the very best Fresno has to offer...hands down.

I am brand new to knitting and Fran was so welcoming and extremely helpful. She took the time to suggest the most appropriate tools for me. Also,I started out continental, but want to switch to the more common style and she carefully demonstrated knit and purl for me Her the shop is tiny, lovely, and well- organized with an almost magical charm.

Shop is very small, but as they say "Good things come in small packages". Fran is a doll and makes every effort to please. Helps the yarn addicts of Central California have another place to shop. Cannot imagine anyone not being happy there.

Fran is very friendly and eager to help. She's never too busy to help in any way. Her store is quite small but still stocked with a large variety of yarns and patterns. All my friends like going there too. I like to support her efforts of making the patterns and needles so available and always stocked by recommending her shop over others in the area.

Honestly, I will never return here again, and advise my other knitting friends to stay away. Whoever was working did not even acknowledge my existence, while she blabbed on with some other woman about nothing...really, really loudly. Store is small with limited selection. It's also very cramped, and overpriced.

Fran, the owner, is so nice and welcoming. The shop is lovely and is located right in Gazebo Gardens. There's a wonderful porch at the front of the store overlooking the gardens where you can knit or crochet. My husband and I live in San Francisco now but found this new shop by accident when we went to visit the garden (a favorite place from my childhood). What a terrific surprise to find this lovely yarn store there, too!
