I have been an avid knitter for many years and have visited many yarn shops. Strings and Strands has by far the best selection of yarns I have ever seen. The shop was charming and the service was exceptional. It is well worth a visit.

Are we talking about the same store? I was in there very recently and found it quite the opposite. The owner was there and on the phone when I walked in. She nodded at me and continued to set up appointments and talk about her upcoming trips for another 10-15 minutes. The store is very tiny and the yarns are not priced. The place to go if you still want eyelash and novelty yarns - I found the selection very sparse and not worth the time to try and find it in the
side of an office building. It was better before she moved.

I had a very pleasant experience in this shop and can't wait to visit again. The owner was very friendly and helpful. She really knows knitting! They have a very large selection of both novelty and basic yarns. Quantity wasn't an issue either. I was able to purchase enough Alpaca Silk to make a King Size afghan. I found the prices on all yarns, so I'm not sure what the previous poster is talking about.

I always visit Strings & Strands and quite frankly prefer it to many of the other knitting shops. The selection of yarns is quite comprehensive. I'm always greeted and have found the owner extremely knowledgable and willing to help answer yarn or techniques questions.

I always make time to visit this store when in Atlanta. It has the BEST selection of yarns I've ever seen under one roof! It's easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The people working there are pleasant and helpful.

I must be missing something.....I've visited the shop one time since they moved and found it to be cramped and somewhat musty smelling. After that I decided not to return. I too agree with the poster about it being better before she moved.

Fantastic Store! I can't wait to visit again.

Strange, seems like people have very mixed reviews of this place. Sadly, I have to side with the negative voices here. The selection was not that great, and there was a heavy emphasis on novelty yarns, which I don't happen to prefer. The owner was there and was friendly-ish until my friend and I tried to pay with a credit card. The owner let us know that she gets charged a lot for credit cards and wasn't happy about us using one. We weren't buying tons of yarn, but it was about $30, not $3, and it just didn't come across well.

Good selection, knowledgeable & helpful salesperson. Would definately revisit the store.

Hate to say anything bad about a yarn shop as I try to love 'em all but this one has seen better days. Sad little shop in a horrible location. Owner or employee, not sure which, seems tired of it all and rather grumpy. too bad! but, there's lots of shops in Atlanta so on to the next.

Wow, I have to say I don't understand all the negativity written about this shop. I just visited Strings & Strands and had a wonderful experience. Of the 4 shops I visited while in Atlanta, it was the easiest to find, easiest to park at, and has a great selection of both novelty and basic yarns. The help was knowledgable and very helpful. I can't wait for my next visit, it will be the only shop I go to!

First off, I feel the owner of this site needs to read all before anything is put out to the public. The owner of this site needs to know the full names of people putting their opinions here. This is too easy to be able to Slander those you may not like.
Strings and Strands has been around for a very long time. Of course you are going to like the looks, even the smell of a brand new shop. It by the way was not the musty smell someone thougth they smelled. It was a shop in the shopping center and it came through the vents.
I believe we are all grumpy at times and you are going to find this in all of the shops, that is if you really spend time in each one. We are all human. Yes a shop owner should be pleasant all the time but it is not going to happen. I could tell you something about each shop in Atlanta, and one of the things I can tell you is they all can be rude to the customer(s). The best thing now is we all have a choice to go where we want as there are more shops, just do not knock the shops. Say something nice and then go where you are the happiest. Your prices are best at a Strings and Strands and for the most part Barbara and Zena are very nice. Don't judge the shop but its looks, judge it by what is in the shop and who is in the shop.
If you like sitting around a table and knitting maybe this is not the place for you. There are shops that allow this.
Buy the yarn where you really like the yarn.
Remember, be nice to all the shops.
Phyllis
PS: I am not afraid to sign my name and frankly speaking I think there are people that are out to hurt different shops.

Still my favorite shop in the Atlanta area! They have a wide and varied selection. Friendly and willing to help.

yes, strings and strands has the best parking and it's easy to get to if you live in my part of town. I just wish they were more inspiring and nicer to their customers. I think that the selection is fine and I can usually find what I need but in this day and age, it would be refreshing to expereince some great service.

Has anyone else noticed that all the reviews of this shop are anonymous...hmmm....!!!!

This store is not signed very well from the road, just says "yarn shop". Has a really nice selection though-lots of novelty yarns. Colinette, rowan, noro,SWTC,schaefer. It is a bit small and crammed with yarn, but I like the selection, so it is my LYS.

"Say something nice and then go where you are the happiest."
No, actually, please don't. Be honest. I use these to decide whether or not to visit a shop that's a bit of a drive, so if all of the reviews are platitudes, it becomes useless. While there's no need to be unnecessarily nasty, requesting that people "just be nice" and not be honest defeats the purpose of reviews.
Large, large selection of novelty yarns. As a huge fan of wool, it's not my thing. I've also had issues with both women seeming to disregard me, either because of my age or because they don't know me. They weren't rude, but they were more than happy to interrupt answering my questions greet and chat at length with the older ladies coming in. Easiest Atlanta LYS to find parking for, though.

I visited on the first weekend of shop hop this year. I skipped this one last year due to time. I was a little shocked that they didn't seem ready for us. Actually, they were a little surprised when my group showed up...and totally overwhelmed. I'd think if they were in the shop hop that they would have been ready for lots of customers...and, the novelty sock pattern is one I can do without. ick...eyelash...no 80's socks for me. i think my instincts year one of the hop were right on! good parking, though!

My new favorite shop! Great selection of both novelty and basic yarns. If you missed the wools, you didn't visit the back half of the shop. I especially liked the sale room. It was full of great bargains! The Staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy to get to and park at.

I live in Sandy Springs and rarely shop (I've been twice this year.) at Strings and Strands. Before I discovered some of the other shops in town I tried it out several times.
Atmosphere-It is so cramped, I can't even turn around without knocking something down.
Service: Every time I went in I felt as though I was a bother to the person working there. I have never found them to be friendly or helpful. The person is either on the phone and ignoring me completely or staring at me as though I'm going to stuff all the yarn in my purse and bolt. I've felt uncomfortable every time I have visited.
Selection-As many have said before-it is a lot of novelty yarn. If I want novelty, I go to a big chain store for sale yarn, not my LYS.
For the person concerned about the anonymous posts, it's because people don't want to signup for yet another web site.

WOW this must be the most dramatic shop in ATL! I have read the post and I agree with a lot of the positive and negative comments. First, it is in an odd location and has limited parking. Second, there are tons of yarns in this shop, floor to ceiling. Unfortunately, it is not organized in a manner in which my brain could comprehend! The older sales lady was not nearly has helpful as the woman on the phone earlier in the week but she tried. However, an other customer came in that she knew and she stopped helping me. I felt very overwhelmed in this shop. But, I would use them as a resource to locate something my local shop doesnt have.

I've been a customer of Strings & Strands for many years. The only reason I continue to shop there is because I happen to love all of the novelty yarns. No other shop in Atlanta has such a huge selection. However, customer service has always been a problem with this store; I would describe it as inconsistent. For this reason, I only shop for yarn in Strings & Strands; I then look online for a place to purchase the yarn I want.

I visited this store on my trip to Atlanta this weekend. I had read all the reviews, good and bad, and since it was so close to my my hotel I thought I'd give it a go.
Initially, I was a little put off by the building it was in. looked like an old motel, but once inside found the lady working there to be quite friendly. The selection was pretty good, found Malabrigo, TOFUtsies, Noro, Debbie Bliss.
There were ALOT of novelty yarns..fun fur, ribbon, etc. Not anything I ever purchase but I'm sure there is a market for it.
My only disappointment was a small selection of anything OTHER than yarn. I was hoping for notions, needles, bags and there were only a few. Those that they DID have were tucked behind the register where I couldn't get to them without asking for help.
All in all, I picked up a ball of TOFUtsies and enjoyed my visit.

Been in the shop several times - nice selection of yarns I have not found other places. I found some incredible bargins in the sale room on more than 1 ocassion (several different cones for $5! each)
I did find that many of the yarns were not priced and that is an annoyance as I hate to have to ask. I spent lots of times looking and touching and the owner was very pleasant. No problems using a credit card.
I recommend the store
