Notes
This is a fabric store, and a high-class one, but it has some yarn, some magazines, and at least one class. It also has buttons galore, *many* buttons.

more of a fabric store then a yarn store, but it has more yarns then a really small yarn store. it has that sterling silver sock yarn, in white red and black. (GREAT fabrics!!!)

I just came back from a visit to San Francisco and stopped by this store. This was easily, my favorite place in Berkley! They have a lovely and eclectic yarn mix that's got a good sampling of the newest innovations in yarn. For example, they had paca peds in stock, which is a machine washable wool-alpaca blend. I haven't seen this yarn in any of my LYS here in Columbus, Ohio. The staff was friendly, and their book selection in knit and crochet patterns had a good variety. It's really a fantastic fabric store, but it's a great yarn store as well.

I love this store! I would call it a fabric store with some yarn, before I ever called it a yarn store, though. I was a bit surprised to see it on the list.
What they have is wonderful, a very unique and varied mix. Really neat to dig through and see what yo can find. The staff is wonderful, and they really do have a LOT of buttons.

Not just a terrific fabric store! The yarn buyer for Stonemountain is inspired and has put together a unique selection of eco-yarns, wool yarns for felting - all the best at great prices. The buttons are worth a trip in alone!

utterly and completely disappointed. there were a total of 16 cubby holes of yarn. my husband and i looked all over the store to see where the rest of the yarn was and, unless it was hidden behind some of the phenomenal fabrics and buttons they have there, we were unable to find it. tiniest yarn selection *ever*. the trip was not worth the calories i burned to get there.

I wasn't terribly impressed, and to me that is disappointing!
I'm a sewer and I was on a mission to find fabric, and this shop really didn't have anything I was looking for. There was a lovely selection of more quilting type of fabric, but the apparel fabric was severely lacking. The customer service was just ok as well. The store was alive and bustling, and it was great to see so many people supporting local, small business. I did purchase a few small items, but found better fabric luck at Piedmont Fabrics in Oakland and Peapod Fabrics in San Francisco - far better selection, warmer vibe, and better customer service.
Despite my lack of luck, if you are in the area (or visiting LACIS) I would definitely recommend stopping by this shop.

Stone Mountain is phasing out its yarn/needle felting supplies.
Good place for quilting cottons, GREAT button selection, and also good for wools & stretch knits.

Greetings Yarn Loving Community!
I am so sad to let you all know that we made the difficult decision to close out our amazing yarn collection earlier this year. We loved carrying it and brought it in after Straw into Gold closed. Then many wonderful yarn shops opened up and we felt that we could better serve our customers by focusing back on our fabulous collections of fabric, buttons (yes perfect for your knitted items) and lots of notions for the knitter and home seamster. Blessings, Suzan and Bob from Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley!
We hope to see you all soon for your fabric and BUTTON needs!
