Notes

This is truly a working farm (with sheep, llamas and alpacas) as well as a mill, with the yarn shop attached. The yarn shop carries Stonehedge Fiber Mill's Shepherd's Wool, which is made in the mill on the premises.

*Very* friendly people! We stopped by on a trip down from the UP, and it was worth going out of the way. They don't carry a huge variety, but they do have a nice selection of both Shepherds Wool and yarns from their own animals (they carry a line of "Almost Handspun", which is a 50/50 alpaca merino blend that is just heavenly!). The prices are very good, but the shop is really just an adjunct to the mill. The ladies working that day were happy to show us around the mill, and demonstrate how the raw fleece they receive gets spun into yarn.

One important note: if you are going to visit, email or call them for directions! GPS, Mapquest, Google Maps - they all take you along back roads which are either unpaved or in less-than-great condition. So, unless you have 4WD and want your vehicle to get a bit dirty, drop them a line and they'll give you directions right to their door, all on paved roads.

My husband and I had a little cabin fever and we decided to go for a drive.
This was such a wonderful experience!
Debbie McDermott's selection of her yarn made from her mill/ Shepherd's Wool is exquisite and reasonably priced, and comes in all sorts of yummy colors! She and her husband gave us a tour of the farm including their sheep and mill! A great way to buy local and american made!

Note you should call Debbie before visiting in the winter the driveway can be a little tricky and you probably need a 4wd. I can't wait to visit the farm this summer, should be beautiful!
